Submit your sports metaphor to the Brad Johnson Metaphor Contest today!

$100 Prize for Best Brad Johnson Metaphor

Running elections in Montana is no game.

It just sounds like one sometimes when Brad Johnson is running the show.

Brad Johnson hailed a recent elections audit as a victory, because of the audit's finding that there was no evidence that dead individuals or incarcerated felons had been able to vote illegally.

Johnson sure has a funny idea of what victory means.  The audit is an obvious criticism of the failures of his office and a refute of his claims that same day voter registration increased 'fraud'. The audit is a clear indication that Johnson "fumbled" the 2006 election.

So, since sports are a metaphor for life. So we’re having a contest for the best sports metaphor that describes how Johnson bungled the 2006 elections in Montana.  The winner receives $100 and of course, fame and glory.

Example:  Johnson saying the fact that no dead people or felons voting was a “victory” is like a coach saying “You know, we lost every game this season, but we kept the uniforms clean.

You, the reader, submit your metahpor to us. A select panel of completely impartial judges will select the winner. Entry must be received by Friday, August 24, 2007 by 10:00a.m. MST. Any U.S. resident age eighteen or older can enter (exclucing of course dead individuals or incarcerated felons).

Send your sports metaphors in an email info@mtdemocrats.net  with “Sports metaphor contest” in the subject line if you want to play. Entries should include the name, address, and phone number of the contest participant.  Email submissions only, please. You may enter as many metaphors as you like.

Fine Print:

Any U.S. resident age eighteen or over can enter, except employees, agents, or representatives of Brad Johnson or any member of his immediate family. Entries that are lost, late, misdirected, garbled, or for any reason, including by reason of hardware, software, browser, or network failure, malfunction, congestion, or incompatibility at the Web site or elsewhere, inability to use a computer properly will not be eligible. The Montana Democratic Party, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process, the operation of the Web site, or otherwise in violation of the rules. You may not point out that what we really mean by metaphor is analogy.

In the event two or more valid entries contain the identical sports metaphor (including punctuation), the Judge(s) will draw the finalist by random selection. All decisions of the Judge(s) are final and binding. Subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void outside the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and where prohibited.

The Prize is a check for $100 made out to the winner. Entries should include the name, address, and phone number of the contest participant. No substitutions for the Prize. Income and other taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner. All entries become the property of The Montana Democratic Party  and will not be acknowledged or returned. Except where prohibited: acceptance of the Prize constitutes consent to use winner’s name, likeness, and winning entry for editorial, advertising, and publicity purposes, without further compensation.

The now apparently defunct INSA is now the subject of criminal investigations.

INSA Update: Conrad Burns and his lobbying firm at center of Federal Corruption Investigation

Earlier this month, IR Washington Bureau reported that the "U.S. Attorney’s Office is probing the financial connections between Gage LLC, a lobbying firm, and a Missoula space group, a Washington publication reported this week.

"The Inland Northwest Space Alliance was created  in 2003 with $3.1 million in NASA earmarks procured by Conrad Burns, R-Mont. Burns."  (Remember that the tainted Burns now works for Gage.)

"INSA was the focus of a state legislative audit. It also has been at the center of investigations by the FBI and NASA Office of Inspector General, the Missoulian has reported."

Now, "the U.S. attorney’s office is now probing financial ties between Gage and INSA, according to the widely respected Washington publication National Journal, which cited two unnamed sources familiar with the inquiry. It is illegal to use federally appropriated funds for lobbying purposes, the report noted.

"Gage is run by Leo Giacometto, Burns’s former chief of staff. After it was formed, INSA hired Gage as its lobbying firm and for other consulting services.

"Between 2003 and 2005, INSA awarded a no-bid contract and paid out about $350,760 to Gage and Compressus Inc., where Giacometto served as vice president and lobbyist, and where Bums’ daughter, Keeley, served on the board of directors, the Missoulian has reported. ...more.

Not much happening at INSA these days. The Phillipsberg office of INSA appears to be empty and up for rent.
