An
arts education program, scholarships and a student art show are
just some of the ways TACFA serves our community.
|
In
June, TACFA awarded five $2000-scholarships for a total of $10,000
in scholarship awards, to TUSD high school seniors who will further
their arts education in a post-secondary institution. Scholarship
winners were: Courtney Beavers (visual arts and drama)
and Kyle Evans (instrumental music), members of the first graduating
class of Beckman High School; Giselle Strauss (art in oil and acrylics)
of Foothill High; and Peter Parrish (drawing and painting) and Leah
Birkenbach (photography and creative writing) from Tustin High.
In
May, artwork by high school students in the TUSD was displayed at
the Tustin Area Senior Center, as part of TACFA’s
annual Student Art Show. First, Second, and Third Place
art in various divisions, as well as, a Best of Show prize, were
awarded by a panel of judges. Winning students received cash prizes.
Teachers will buy art supplies with the money they were given by
TACFA. Enderle Center Merchants Association, EMS Development Company,
AA Jewel Box and Chemers Gallery were sponsors and donated prize
money.
During
the 2006-2007 school year, TACFA’s arts education program
in TUSD elementary schools continued with funding for the Art Masters
series at Heideman and Beswick Elementary Schools. In support of
this program, TACFA received a twenty-five hundred dollar ($2,500)
grant from the Art-A-Fair Foundation, a non-profit organization
working directly with the Art-A-Fair Festival of Laguna Beach, California
to promote the arts.

"The
King and I" waltzes into Peppertree Park
August 21 - August 25!

Gather
the family, tell your friends, buy
your tickets, pack a picnic and grab those blankets
and beach chairs – it’s time for Broadway in the Park!
The Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts (TACFA) in association with
LimonCarr Productions will present the 7th annual Broadway
in the Park musical event. The King and I will be staged
in Tustin's Old Town Peppertree Park every evening from August
21 through 25 at sundown.
East
meets West with dignity in this musical play based on a true story.
In the 1860s, the King of Siam (modern-day Thailand) hires an
Englishwoman, Anna Leonowens, to teach his children and bring
Western culture to his country. After a series of misunderstandings
and crises, the King and Anna develop a mutual respect for each
other and their cultures in a sensitive portrayal that avoids
clichés. Audience members will enjoy such song favorites
as Hello, Young Lovers and Getting to Know You.
This
is fun family entertainment suitable for all ages, with pre-play
activities for children, picnicking on the grass or at reserved
tables, and food prepared by local community groups available
for purchase. Broadway in the Park, TACFA's signature event, is
enjoyed by people from all around Orange County. Plan now to attend
by marking your calendars to enjoy a special evening with Anna
and the King of Siam.
