Thanks for helping the kids and an Update on Saving Lord and Taylor
You tomatoes are an amazing bunch. The Three Tomatoes
already knew that, but you’ve reconfirmed it in full in the past week. You have serious “juice”.
First, we want to thank all of you who attended The Three Tomatoes holiday designer trunk show event last week. We had such a great time meeting you, but we especially want
to thank you for the fantastic donations of hats, gloves and scarves for the children who are in Partnership with Children programs that provide emotional and
social support so that they can succeed in school, in society and in their lives. We received this note from Barbara
Cavallo, Clinical Director for Partnership with Children to all of the tomatoes:
“We just received all of the wonderful scarves, hats and gifts you so
generously donated to the children we serve. The gifts will be given to the families who are in the most need this holiday season.
Some of our children do not have warm scarves, mittens, gloves, or age appropriate toys. The gifts you have given will keep our
children's bodies warm as they walk to school and hearts warm as they know someone cares.”
If you would like to send hats and gloves, or make a monetary donation to
this wonderful organization, please contact Wendy Rothstein at 212 689-9500 or visit their web site, http://www.partnershipwithchildren.org/.
Now, the second amazing thing you did last week was to protest the possible closing
of Lord and Taylor on Fifth Avenue. As a result
of your emails, we heard first from the Crain’s New York
Business reporter who wrote the story about this possible catastrophe. She ran a little blurb in this Monday’s edition of Crain’s
which said in part “Lord & Taylor Fans are rallying to protest the possibility of L&T leaving Manhattan…spurred by a mention in an
e-mail newsletter called The Three Tomatoes”. We next heard from Richard Baker, the president of the firm that now
owns Lord and Taylor. He wanted to assure all the tomatoes that their goal is to make Lord and Taylor even better than it is, and
while they are still “evaluating” the Fifth Avenue store, a likely scenario is to keep the store there, but downsize it.
We next heard from the CEO of Lord and Taylor, Jane Elfers who has offered to host a Three Tomatoes event at L&T on Fifth in the
spring. Talk about tomato juice! Our hats are off to Crains and Lord and Taylor for responding in such a positive
way to all of your emails.
Keeping kids warm and saving Lord and Taylor today…tomorrow we'll work on
world peace!
Secret Lard Lovers
Okay, so moving back into The Three Tomatoes typical silliness,
our brains have been running rampant ever since NYC become the first government entity to ban the use of trans fats in restaurants.
Yes tomatoes, that means no more of those wonderful flakey pie crusts, and yummy lard laced breads, fried chicken and bagels.
Think of it as lard prohibition. Which could well lead to secret lard stills, bootlegged lard, and secret entry ways with passwords to get
into back rooms that smell of greasy fats and are filled with lard lovers consuming mass quantities of pies and fried chickens.
Watch out, we hear sugar and refined starches are next!
Well here’s to tomato juice. And if you like getting The Three Tomatoes, tell your
friends whom you think might like it too!
‘til next week,
The Three Tomatoes
