Democrats Win Big in Ravalli County and Make History: The times are a’ changing

There's a lot of excitement this week as our neighbors in Ravalli County won their biggest county election in history.  Last night, Democrats there defeated three Republicans for County Commissioner seats.

The results in Ravalli County's special general election indicate Republicans lost across the board. Democrats now control a 3-2 majority on the important County Commission.

Ravalli County voters spoke loudly and clearly for change--led by solid margins in the three partisan races, leaving the GOP in the dark. This was an almost unimaginable result in Ravalli County just a short time ago.

The Democratic emergence signaled a shift from past elections, as the county commission has long been Republican controlled.  But this week demonstrated our commitment to working together with our neighbors at the grassroots level to win local elections across the state. ..

Schweitzer Shows Leadership, Foresight to Protect Montana Cattle from Brucellosis

This latest discovery of the disease in the Bridger herd is a huge wake-up call for Montana cattle producers. No question the Governor has been right-on in his concerns.

The Governor is a cattle rancher and has been concerned about the brucellosis threat since taking office: the brucellosis threat, which can come from bison, elk, Mexican cattle, or other sources. He was also very concerned about BSE and insisted on better testing of animals and feed coming from Canada where the disease had been detected...more.

Republicans Tap Big Oil and Gas Lobbyist Lee Bruner for AG

Giddiness over record profits from some of the highest gas prices in history has prompted the Montana Petroleum Marketers Association to run their lobbyist for office. Lee Bruner sent out an email to his closest friends and associates this week announcing his bid for

Montana’s Attorney General.

Those of us concerned about ethics in government know that more lobbyist control of government is the last thing we need.  The fact that Burner chose to lobby for oil executives instead of Montana families facing high gas prices says a lot about his priorities.

Rehberg Staffer Faces Conflict of Interest in Bid to Chair the Montana Republican Party

Montanans are still waiting to see if Rep. Dennis Rehberg will ask his Chief of Staff, Erik Iverson to avoid a potential and obvious conflict of interest by agreeing not to raise campaign funds for the Montana Republican Party from anyone who might be influenced by Rehberg’s office.

Iverson plans to serve as Rehberg’s chief of staff as well as run for chairman of the Montana Republican Party this month.

Citing Iverson’s dual roles—involvement in key policy decisions as Rehberg’s Chief of Staff and his intention to solicit donations for the Montana Republican party—MDP Chair Dennis McDonald says Erik Iverson should additionally pledge not to solicit contributions from any organization or group which might benefit by official actions of Congressman Rehberg.
