The Virginia Film Society kicks off its spring series with "Step Across the Border," a documentary about legendary avant-garde musician Fred Frith. The film is a collage of clips of the artist and his collaborators, including René Lussier, Bob Ostertag and John Zorn. Guest artist of the University of Virginia Arts Board, Frith will attend the screening at Vinegar Hill and discuss the film with the audience afterwards. Jeffrey Allison of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts leads a workshop for educators on the function of photography as a mode of expression for artists and their subjects. The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia presents a John W. and Maria T. Kluge Distinguished Lecture in Arts and Humanities, followed by the opening reception of Our Way: Contemporary Aboriginal Art from Lockhart River. The lecture, entitled "What is Contemporary About Aboriginal Art?", will be given by Professor Terry E. Smith of the University of Pittsburgh.

 

Both events take place at Newcomb Hall, University of Virginia.

PVCC Theatre presents Jean-Paul Sartre's 1944 No Exit at the Maxwell Black Box Theatre in the V. Earl Dickinson Building. The show will run for four evening performances, with an additional midnight performance on February 15. Admittance for all performances is free, but seating in the Maxwell Theatre is limited and late seating is not permitted. Tickets may be picked up at the PVCC Box Office two hours before the show.
