CEO's Corner
Most of us know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
We see it advertised in many places this month and there are many Races for the Cure that also take place in October. Susan
G. Komen for the Cure does a fantastic job promoting awareness with all that they do. If you are not familiar with the story of
Susan G. Komen and how this organization got started I highly recommend you visit their website at http://www.komen.org/. It’s a story of a promise from one sister to another. Susan
G. Komen died from breast cancer at the age of 36 after a three-year battle. Her sister Nancy has committed a lifetime of effort to fight this
disease.
The awareness that Nancy has created over the last 25 years is an
incredible accomplishment. The lives that have been saved by bringing breast cancer to the forefront number in the thousands. One
person, Nancy Brinker, has done this with a promise and a commitment to her sister. That is the power of one.
And that is an impressive accomplishment. One person truly can make a difference. And nobody knows that
better than our Cindy Jensen. Cindy, from Bend, OR, was the idea behind our Pink for
a Purpose, “Hammer out Breast Cancer” initiative. Because of this program we have raised over $139,000 for the Susan
G. Komen for the Cure foundation. We continue with this partnership for the upcoming year with hopes of topping our first year
numbers.
Join us in stepping up and making a difference, not only in the month of
October, but year round. We see and learn from these two women what one personal commitment can lead to. Thank you Nancy Brinker
for your vision, and Cindy Jensen for passing it forward!
