October 2007

The holiday season is here!  Many homes "sprout" seasonally themed decorations continuously from now until New Year's.  But if  selling a home is your goal, be careful not to scare away your buyers!  To keep the 'spirit' of the fall season, but not frighten potential buyers, try these suggestions:

  • don't overdo the decorations, keep clean uncluttered lines
  • rake leaves and sweep porches frequently
  • replace dying or dormant plants with colorful potted plants such as mums
  • replace worn welcome mats with fresh ones
  • add warm throws to porch rockers or chairs
  • add uncarved pumpkins or gourds instead of jack-o-lanterns
  • use warm autumnal colors in accent pieces like candles, throws and pillows

Remember, while you may love holiday decor, others may not.  Selling is all about widening the pool of potential buyers, not narrowing it.  An autumn theme is more neutral than a spidery, witchy Halloween theme.  Keep it simple and neutral, and save your scariest decorations for next year in your new home!

FEATURED STAGED LISTING:

Our thanks to Hillary Donn of Re/Max for the opportunity to stage her listing on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont.  This partially furnished studio apartment lacked definition and warmth, but Showcase Your Space turned it into a cozy, welcoming home for a lucky buyer.  That buyer turned up at the open house the following day, and now the studio is SOLD!!!  For before and after pictures, CLICK HERE.  And for similar results for your next difficult listing, please call us!

FEATURED "QUICK SALE":

Special congratulations to Alli Tugendhaft of Prudential Holmes & Kennedy of Chappaqua, who sold her (staged) listing at 31 Avenue A within days of the listing!  This charming antique colonial has space for everything - gardening, entertaining, relaxing and play.  The inside is that perfect combination of old charm and modern convenience.  And staging, by Showcase Your Space, enhanced those features by showing the enclosed sunporch as a comfy family room and enlarging the bedrooms with appropriate furniture placement.  The market may be slower than it's been in recent years, but with the right presentation, houses can still sell quickly!  To see the complete story in photos, CLICK HERE.
