What do you do to
thank people who have been a 'second family' to you for a decade? Why, replace their broken old Barbeque table
with a new one of course! So that's what
I did.
When I began to
design the table, I tried to recall what I learned all those years ago in Tech
Drawing class at school - stuff about angles, scales and perspectives. As hard as I tried, my initial designs all
looked like the table got sat on by a bulldozer! I needed an expert, so I borrowed a CAD
designer from the Peterson office, and between the two of us, my vision was
drawn.
I had the plan,
now I needed the wood. Well, I couldn't
possibly go out and purchase any pre-cut, I work with sawmills all day
long! So I tracked down Brownies brother
Rob, who drives an 8"24hp WPF and has been milling for ages, and we set about
cutting the log to my table specs.
Once the timber
was cut and had dried for six months then got h3 treated, I was ready to
assemble following the drawings. After
much muttering and a little frustration, my buddy and I figured out that the
best way to go about the assembly, was to make the pieces match the
pictures. So from there, things started
to come together. Five hours, and a
couple of bourbons later, we had ourselves a table, and not long after that I
even got to enjoy my 25th birthday party on the comfort of the
greatest table ever made... by me.
