clubGEN Workshops Help GENaustin Reach More Girls than Ever
Before
As part of recruitment efforts for the 2008/2009 school year, GENaustin has begun offering workshops on topics
such as body image, diversity, media literacy and bullying. Recently, at Dobie Middle School 15 girls participated in a Lunch Bunch event hosted
by Communities in Schools during which GENaustin staff members talked with the girls about cliques, bullying and relational
aggression. May will be a busy month, with workshops scheduled at Fulmore, Kealing, O.Henry, Ann Richards, and Lamar.

Join Us for the First GENerate Event on May 16th
GENerate is an educational networking group dedicated to exploring issues affecting women and
girls. Membership helps support GENaustin programs that equip adolescent girls with skills to navigate growing up female and become successful
women.
Our first event will be a breakfast taking place on Friday, May 16th 8:00-9:30am at Thompson
Knight Law Firm. Barb Steinberg, a local clinical social worker and therapist, will be discussing
her most recent project, a documentary film entitled, The Wisdom of Girls: Teens, Sex & Truth. Come join us as we learn the answers to these
questions and leave feeling empowered to inform and protect the girls in our lives.
Look forward to future events, which include speakers
like Kathy Miller from the Texas Freedom Network and Courtney Martin, author of Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters.

Thank You to Our Interns
GENaustin would like to thank our six amazing interns from the UT Masters Social Work Program: Cindy Carter,
Eboni Lundsford, Ivy Ikes, Kayle Evans, Jenny White, and Susan Woessner. We truly appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to
facilitating clubs, supporting Girl Talk presentations, and providing a helping hand wherever needed. We will miss the enthusiasm and
perspective they brought to our programs. We wish them all the best!

Support GENaustin by Attending a Remarkable
Conference
GENaustin is excited to partner for a second year with the Remarkable Women's Conference,
which will take place June 6th-8th at Norris Conference Center.
The conference was created to fill a void in local conferences by providing a space for women from all
cross-sections of the community to come together, make meaningful connections, and provide support and encouragement for one another while attending
first class break-out sessions and keynote addresses from the best talent that Austin has to offer. The Conference provides a vehicle for women to
grow their whole person and includes amazing speakers in topics such as family, workplace, health, relationships and business
ownership. The Remarkable Women’s
Conference is committed to supporting the community and a portion of profits will be donated
to GENaustin.
