1st Week of Advent Devotions:
Friday, 12/08/06
The Lord is my light and my
salvation;
whom then shall I
fear?
the Lord is the strength of my
life;
of whom then shall I be
afraid?
When evildoers came upon me to eat up my
flesh,
it was they, my foes and my adversaries, who
stumbled and fell.
Though an army should encamp against
me,
yet my heart shall not be
afraid;
And though war should rise up against
me,
yet will I put my trust in
him.
One thing have I asked of the Lord;
one thing I seek;
that I may dwell in the house of the
Lord all the days of my
life.

Before our family came to Church of the Beloved we had been worshiping at a large
church in Charlotte. I had participated in the worship service as a reader and also volunteered once a month on the Altar
Guild. But for me there was no sense of community; I always felt like I was worshiping alone on Sunday morning.
It was easy to blame the church.
My feelings changed
dramatically when our family came to Church of the Beloved. Why? I got involved.
The first involvement I had outside of worshiping on Sunday morning was Beloved Pilgrimage. I had the daunting task of
examining my own faith journey. That was an eye opener for me but one that opened all new doors. I realized
that this was a place where I could continue to grow in my faith.
My husband, Bud, has
always said that your life is like a wheel. To feel complete the wheel must be
round. When I arrived at Beloved I realized that my wheel was not round. For me the involvement with fellow
Christians was lacking in my life. I have found that one of the most important things that I can do for my spiritual life is be
with other Christian brothers and sisters.
During this Advent season, and
in the upcoming year as our church community grows and works toward becoming a parish, we will have many opportunities to fellowship with others in
our church. How would you like to become involved in order to keep your wheel round?
