Around Beloved
An epiphany is a moment when something hidden suddenly becomes clear. The Feast of Epiphany is when God's salvation in Jesus, known only to a few, is made public to the
world through the shining of a star and the visit of wise men from the east.
Our Epiphany Pageant (with a cast of over 75 children and adults, including Assisting Bishop Gary
Gloster reprising his role as a Wise Man) will be held at 9:30am this Sunday, January 8th. Dont miss this exciting annual finale of Beloveds Christmas celebrations
Gift of Hospitality: a few more folks are still needed who are willing to bake and contribute homemade treats for the Hospitality Time with the Bishop after
this Sundays Epiphany Pageant. If you can help, click here
Walking the Bible, a three-part PBS miniseries, airs beginning Wednesday (1/4) at 8pm. Based
on the book by the name, author Bruce Feiler traveled 10,000 miles over ground
where biblical events are said to have occurred and discovers how integral the
landscape of the Bible can be for faith. In Wednesdays opener, Go Forth: from
Creation to Abraham, he and archaeologist Avner Goren climb Mount Ararat, where
Noahs Ark is said to have landed, and visit the possible site of Sodom and Gomorrah,
among others...The Beloved CD, Looking through Windows, will be for sale at a booth during the January 27-28 Diocesan Convention in Winston-Salem. We need folks to staff the booth, particularly during the break times during these two days. Interested? More
questions? Click here.

Lets Go High Definition
Beloved is raffling a 42 plasma HDTV to be given away before Super Bowl Sunday
or when all 1000 tickets are sold. Because the donor is a national vendor, we
are able to sell a raffle ticket to anyone residing in the continental United
States. We are grateful to Fred Mellon who secured this generous donation and who is coordinating this effort on behalf
of the funding team. Now that the holidays are almost over, we need folks to assist in the selling of these $20 tickets. Lets make someones Super Bowl Sunday a spectacular one and further the mission
of Beloved at the same time! For tickets, please see Fred at worship on Sundays
or click here.

The story behind the 12 Days of Christmas song
Each day this Christmastide, the Harbins have sung the appropriate verse of this
carol to conclude our supper prayers. Some say that the lyrics were written in
the 18th Century to pass on Christian teachings in code to children during a time when
it was illegal in England to practice the Roman Catholic faith. Others believe
that claim to be an internet-age urban legend. Either way, we offer you the cipher
for your enjoyment and enlightenment
A Partridge in a Pear Tree = The Savior, Jesus Christ
Two Turtle Doves = The Old and New Testaments
Three French Hens = The Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit)
Four Calling Birds = The Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John)
Five Golden Rings = The Sacred Torah (first 5 books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers
and Deuteronomy)
Six Geese a Laying = The six days of creation
Seven Swans a Swimming = The seven Sacraments of the Catholic faith (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation,
Anointing for Healing, Confession, Marriage, Ordination)
Eight Maids a Milking = The eight Beatitudes (see Mathew 5:1-12)
Nine Ladies Dancing = The nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control
see Galatians 5:22-23)
Ten Lords a Leaping = The Ten Commandments (see Exodus 20:1-21 or
Deuteronomy 5:1-21)
Eleven Pipers Piping = The faithful 11 disciples (minus Judas Iscariot, the betrayer)
Twelve Drummers Drumming = The twelve points of faith in the Apostles Creed
