Cultural Art and History Board Established
The City of Apalachicola recently approved the creation of the City's first History, Culture and Arts Committee. This
committee was established by the City Commission in June to coordinate, plan, organize
implement and secure funding for city owned museums, culture centers
and visual/performing arts facilities. more

The City is currently administering several grants for improvements throughout the City. The
following is a update on the major projects.
RIVERFRONT PARK PIER: The City Commission awarded the contract for renovations to the
Riverfront Park at the June Commission meeting. Completion of this renovation will result in a brand new 420' boardwalk/pier

Longtime City Employee retires
Hildur Sorenson, known around town as "Bubba" or "Hildagard" is calling it quits
after 36
years of service to the City. Hildur started working with the City on February 2, 1972 and his official last day of employment was May 29, 2008.

Veterans Dedication July 12
The dedication ceremony for a regional Veterans memorial park in Apalachicola will be held July 12,
2008. The culmination of a seven year million dollar effort will feature a bronze partial replica sculpture of the Three Servicemen Statue - the
original of which stands on the National Mall in Washington's Constitution Gardens. More
