April, 2007

 A note from Craig  . . .

As many of you know, I've been with Petersons for a few years now. I've seen the company triple in staff, and become one of the most respected portable sawmill manufacturing companies in the world. We do this partly by keeping in touch with our customers before and after a sale, and attending shows to demonstrate exactly what our swingblade mills can do.

This year we are demonstrating at twice the amount of shows as last year, in fact, I'm currently in the process of gearing up for our largest show for 2007, Ligna in Germany.  Rosie Decker and I will be taking Ligna by storm, operating our trusted WPF, and releasing the Skillmill to Europe.  It will be a good chance to catch up with Peterson Agents in Europe, as well as showing our mills off to thousands of spectators.  I'm really looking forward to that one.

Lately I've been helping out in the factory a lot - testing and inspecting mills before they leave the factory and helping the guys crate and pack them.  I've definitely enjoyed running the mills on a day-to-day basis again.  Although, as much as I enjoy it, after a hard days milling nothing quite beats a cold beer in a warm bar, so if you're ever heading this way, come down to Hennessey's, an Irish bar here in Rotorua, NZ.  You'll catch me there most Friday nights having a few drinks with the lads.

Cheers,

Craig Hammond
Business Development Manager

Just a note . . .

This is the final instalment of Peterson's Staff stories. In the next issue of 'Cutting Comments', we will be introducing a new feature: 'Peterson Projects' - handy hints, tips and plans from those who have built with wood cut from Peterson mills.

Owners Story: "The Peterson has everything Scot was looking for "

Every now and again we receive stories from our mill owners telling us what they have been doing with their Peterson mill and this month we have an Owners Story from Scot Postle.

Scot Postle has been fascinated with sawmills from the time he was a small boy. Growing up on a beef cattle farm they always needed lumber for fences and barns. His dad and grandpa always wanted a sawmill but their only choice was to take the logs to a local mill. Scot was always the one to volunteer to drive the tractor with wagon loads of logs or lumber - any excuse to see the sawmill in action. Read more . . .

Jeff Sincell found a beauty of a spruce log while milling timber for his mates house, this spruce log was 40 feet in length. Using the track extensions on his WPF, Jeff got over 900 board feet from the log. Read more . . .

During our travels around the world wide web we stumbled upon a website which is one that some of you may be familiar with. The Forestry Forum gives you a insight to the world of sawmilling - forestry, logging and more. For an unbias view of Sawmilling products, and related tools and their uses, the Forestry Forum has it covered.
