GREETINGS
Sue
English, the Cispus Office Manager, explained today how from dawn to
dusk over the weekend in high winds getting pelted by freezing rain and
snow she and her son bushwhacked through 2-1/2 miles of mountain forest
to pack out more than 500 pounds of meat from two bull elks. She had a
smile on her face during the retelling of the entire story. It reminded
me that when we love doing what we are doing, nothing seems like hard
work.

29 Student Solutions to
Bullying
At a recent leadership workshop with student leaders from
a variety of schools, I asked the students three questions: What concerns you? What do
you hope to learn? How do you "roll" as student leaders? From these questions, a
discussion regarding solutions to bullying surfaced. Bullying is in every school at some level; student leaders can be the key to
lessen its
impact.
A Year of Looking at
Inclusion
The WASC Board has selected the topic of inclusion as a theme for the 2008/09
school year. We have created a PBwiki on
inclusion
to document success stories, share activities, list resources, store documents
and pose questions. We hope you visit our PBwiki throughout the year to add to
our collective wisdom.

"Thank You" to Kari Bradley of Curtis Junior High for sending me
an e-mail describing two sites that promote inclusion.
everymondaymatters.org
There are 52 Mondays a year and therefore 52 ways to kick off your week to
improve yourself and your community. This week was Monday #36, which asks
for readers to "Be Neighborly." The site contains interesting,
supportive and digestible facts and it is very student friendly. There is a
book that you can purchase that serves the same purpose.
forbetterlife.org
This site was formed to promote positive character traits, and passing them
on! You can request posters and will receive three VERY nice, large
posters with a well-known person, a character trait and the phrase "pass
it on." There are also PDF files if you have a great printer at
school! They have videos to download, maybe to incorporate into a video
you create for school, etc. You can share stories and read many
inspirational stories as well. I clicked on "Be Inspired" and then
the trait "Do
the Right Thing."

Our Space: THE WASC BOARD
The WASC
Board believes that the work of student leaders is crucial to the academic and
social success of all students. Two sets of guidelines have been designed as a
tool to elevate the work of student leaders at the school level and through a
local association of student councils (groups of high schools organized for a
purpose).

QUOTE
"I
tell them that if you stay committed, your dreams can come true. I'm
living proof of it. I left home at 17 and had nothing but rejections
for 25 years. I wrote more than 20 screenplays, but I never gave up."
