Gather Round for Peninsula District January Meeting
By Laura Schaub
The Peninsula District programs for 2007 will largely be focused on getting our
businesses in order
with new tools, technology and resources, although the January meeting will be a little different.
Feng Shui master and inspirational speaker, Linda Lenore, will be talking about setting
our goals for the year and exploring our relationship to our work. She'll also be talking about balance and the art of giving as good as you
get.
We have chosen this career to make a difference in the lives of others... let's renew
our commitment to that, maybe talk about it a little. January is the time to gather 'round the fire and tell our stories.
If you are a new member, or haven't been to a meeting in a while, please come to Gamble
Garden in Palo Alto (www.gamblegarden.org) on Wednesday, January 24th, at
3:30
PM. See you there!

Sponsorship Drive off to a Strong Start!
By Kelly Greenwood
The annual sponsorship drive is off to a strong start with many of our
current year's sponsors already renewing for next year. As of the
newsletter submission deadline (December 25th), we have already
achieved 18% of our goal of $25,000. A mailing went out to a list of
over 200 potential sponsors on December 19th, and six teams of
volunteers will begin making follow-up calls the first and second weeks
of January.
If you are interested in volunteering to make a few phone calls to
potential sponsors to encourage them to sign up, we would appreciate
the help! Talking points and instructions are provided for volunteers.
Money raised is used for state website maintenance and redesign, as
well as distributed back to the districts to fund local events. Contact
Kelly at kelly@greenwoodlandscape.com to get connected to your local
sponsorship team.

Website Progress
By Li Vellinga
Our committee met in December, at Kelly Greenwood's fascinating houseboat, to review the first concepts for the home page of the new APLD California
website. We had four design styles to choose from and all members present were given an opportunity to make a preliminary decision on their favorite
home page concept.
In addition, we have also received several pictures from members to use on the new website. Many thanks to all of you who submitted such lovely
photos of your gardens for the website! Although December 31st was the deadline for the first round of submissions, we welcome more pictures
since we'd like to represent as many individual members as possible within each district.
We will keep you posted with more updates in early 2007. Happy New Year!!!

The 22nd Annual San Francisco Flower & Garden Show - March 21 to 25, 2007
By Dawn Stranne
Fun activities, inspiring beauty, innovative ideas and products, industry experts and helpful tips for do-it-yourselfers await everyone at one of the
world's largest and most celebrated spring garden festivals: The San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, March 21 - 25 at the historic Cow Palace. Now
celebrating its 22nd year of inspiring gardeners, the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show is very different from the typical home and garden show. It
is known as the most cutting-edge of the top six garden shows in the world for its stunning garden displays, educational offerings and highest
quality gardening products. This year's theme is "Living and Loving the Garden Life." There's plenty for garden lovers at all levels and ages to do,
see and experience--more than twenty full-size show gardens, free talks and practical workshops led by gardening experts, educational exhibits, an
educational and activity area for families, wine and beer garden, live music, as well as shopping for the finest plants, garden art, tools and
specialty items that are difficult to find anywhere else.
Display gardens by top professionals from Paris, South America, Southern California and Arizona, as well as the Bay Area's top garden designers and
creators will include gardens of all sizes and purposes--gardens for entertaining family and friends, artist-inspired sanctuaries, a flower-laden
paradise, tropical havens with water features, a garden full of poisonous plants, an underwater-inspired garden, beautiful container gardens, meadow
gardens with great grasses, low-maintenance and low-water gardens, and sustainable gardens featuring California natives and recyclable materials. The
garden designs will be judged by three world-renown garden experts Fergus Garrett, Steve Martino and Mario Schjetnan.
Kids and the young-at-heart alike will especially enjoy the colorful display gardens - even one that appears to have grown underwater. The
"Sproutopia" area will have hands-on activities and workshops that are free with admission for families. Musical entertainment and special
presentations are planned as well. Discounted ticket prices for youth and students make it affordable to bring the whole family. Children five years
and under are free.
More than sixty free seminars and Do-It-Yourself workshops offer more talent, more topics and more tips than any other horticulture happening in
California. Juried exhibitors will demo the newest and hottest items available on the market today.
A garden show hotel package is available at San Francisco's only certified "green" hotel, the new Orchard Garden (466 Bush St.) The package includes
one night stay in a deluxe guestroom, European-style breakfast buffet for two, two tickets to the show, and a set of Artist Dulcy Wolverton's note
cards of her flower radiographs, which are on display at the hotel and will be at the show for $225 (plus taxes).
