Experience the largest gathering of authors, writers, and readers in Virginia!  Book Festival programs range from author readings and book signings to a StoryFest day of children's authors and storybook characters; from a panel on how to publish a novel to a discussion on running a book club; from a workshop on bookbinding to a discussion on freelancer's rights.

 

All programs are open to the public and, with the exception of a few ticketed events, free of charge. For details on specific events, see the Book Festival schedule.

Paul Curreri in Concert

Charlottesville-based singer/songwriter, guitarist, and "brilliant gutter-blues multi-instrumentalist," Paul Curreri is returning to the the Hamner Cabaret fresh from a series of performances in Ireland and the UK. Curreri is internationally acclaimed for his eloquent lyrics and his finger-style playing. His fifth and latest album, The Velvet Rut, was released in the U.S. in November.

 

Tickets, by reservation only, are $15, which includes food.

Mother Courage and Her Children follows the fortunes of a wily canteen woman who is determined to make her living from the 30 Years War.

Seeking the seeds of Mother Courage? Look in the music hall, the lecture hall, the beer hall and the drill hall; study the 30 Years War and the accordion, the rise and fall of fascism and musical comedy. Everybody sing along: "And though you may not long survive Get out of bed and look alive!"

 

Live Arts' Mother Courage and Her Children, written by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Satch Huizenga, is not to be missed.

"Vibrant Visions" by G. Eric Slayton

Opening Reception with the Artist: April 4, 5:30 - 8pm 

 

Sage Moon Gallery presents the work of Eric Slayton, whose bright images are filled with light and wonderful color harmonies. Primarily a studio painter, Slayton feels it is important for an artist to use years of knowledge gained through academic study and painting from life to recapture a specific moment in time. 

 

Also on display at Sage Moon in April: Art Strings, the painted violins that support the Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra.

See the work of the internationally renowned directors of the prestigious Washington Glass School. Tim Tate is a DC native, and has been working with glass as a sculptural medium for 25 years. Erwin Timmers is one of the DC area's leading green artists, whose approach to sustainable design prioritizes process. Michael Janis first began working with glass as an architect in Australia; his work was published in a book about the best international glass design. Learn more about the artists.
