Readers & Writers Meet
The newest FR feature, Author
Spotlight, provides members and authors with simple tools to connect with
each other. Authors give insights into their books and lives. Members provide feedback and discuss their interests, bibliographic and otherwise.
Authors and members share and
relate with each other using the Discuss Book feature, Author
Connections forum and the increasingly popular FR Chat. Special thanks to the FR Author Spotlight Committee for organizing activities to help
bring members and authors together.
Below is a brief introduction to Chris Genoa, the first author spotlighted by FR.
The recent live chat with Chris was quite interesting and just as entertaining. Be sure to join the chat with the next featured author, Judy
Larson.
Chris Genoa is the author of the bizarre science fiction comedy
Foop!, which bestselling author
Christopher
Moore
called "A surreal pie
in the face." The book was published by a small press in 2005 and,
solely through word of mouth, went on to become an underground hit.
Chris was born and raised in Philadelphia and he studied English
Literature and Chemistry at the College of William & Mary and
King's College London, along with Film Production at the University of
New
Orleans. Chris is also the author of the
forthcoming alternate history comedy Lick Your Neighbor: A Novel of America, which is a dark, satirical look at
what really happened during that first Thanksgiving in Plymouth. Chris
is currently at work on his third novel, The Monkey & the Barrel: A Novel of Kung Fu & Foolish Love. You
can learn more about Chris and his books at www.ChrisGenoa.com.

Member Spotlight
Our 14 th member to enjoy the spotlight is Bri Pippin [ Bri]. Bri will soon celebrate her 2 year anniversary as an FR
member! Bri has a very good understanding of how the FR website functions and is quick to share her
knowledge and experience with members who need assistance. Check out Bri's listed books to
find your next great read. Bri, thanks for sharing with us!
Why do you
read?
As a kid I read out of curiosity; library trips
were events and it was so exciting to be able to pick what I wanted to learn
about next. Then in early adulthood I read for escapism and thrills - reads
that took you away to some sci-fi world or the realms of horror. Then I joined
a book club and after that I was pretty much hooked on books with "meat" to
them. Now I read to expand my horizons, further educate myself about the world
around me, hot issues, and historical events. I still love that books can
expand your mind or provide total escapist entertainment - whatever I'm in the
mood for.
When
and where do you most enjoy reading?
Where is mostly in bed or in a big comfy chair.
I used to love to read in the bathtub, but I don't anymore for fear of dropping
the book in the water and not being able to trade it on FR. I sometimes read
when I'm on the road for work and having lunch by myself. As far as when,
that's primarily in the evenings.
What is your
favorite recently read book?
There's no way I can answer with just one
book! Here
are just some of my most recent favorites...
What book is at
the top of your To Be Read list?
What is one of your
listed books that's a sleeper?
What is one of your
favorite things to do besides reading?
Talking about what I've read...ha ha! I belong to 2 book
clubs and just recently took over coordinating one of them. I also love exploring New England with my partner, gardening, and am passionate about
being a localvore.
What is one of the most
exciting things you've ever done?
Planned my wedding and honeymoon. I did it all on my own and it was so much fun and so amazing. It made me want to be a
professional wedding planner, until I realized that would involve working weekends...belch.
What is something
interesting about you that few (if any) people know?
I'm not
really sure. I guess that I used to be an analyst at the Federal Reserve and once got to meet Alan Greenspan; which just means that after 10 years of
working there I know a lot of trivia about currency, check processing, and the Federal Reserve System. I'm a hit at parties,
folks!
What is one of the most
insightful lessons you've learned in your life?
That
true friends are hard to find and those relationships need to be cultivated much the same as you do with lovers and family - investment of time, love
and support.
What is one aspect of FR
that you're particularly fond of and why?
It is incredibly difficult to list only one thing when there are so MANY
things that I adore about FR, but I particularly love the camaraderie in the forums. And, on those rare occasions when there is disharmony in the
forums, I love the PM feature for those "can you believe she said that" moments.
