OSSO’s Little Ones show great progress
On November 16, 2007 we were finally able to move our 11 little ones to their new home. We moved all the things over to the new orphanage that had been in the temporary house that had been lent to us for a little more than a year. It was a lot of work, but it was very rewarding to finally see this day arrive. From the very first day we could see how the children began to progress more quickly in the different areas of development. Due to the temporary location we had been in, our children had not had much space before, so after the move to our new orphanage they began to discover new spaces and develop new skills. Since that day there has been a remarkable integration of the children to their surroundings. They are happier and more sociable. They love to walk around and play, especially in their new, built-in sandbox.

After the move, on December 8th, we received our twelfth child. This beautiful boy came from the jungle. He had been left by his mother to the care of an old couple who couldn’t provide a good life to him. This young boy has cerebral palsy which makes it difficult for him to move the right side of his body. In addition to this, he has a deformation in his right hand as a result of a third-degree burn caused when he was living with the old couple. In spite of all these things, he is a happy boy and likes to sing in his own way, to play with a ball and feel the love and the care of the workers and volunteers of OSSO. The pediatric neurologist that is now treating him is impressed by his progress and credits this to the degree of stimulation, love and attention that he has received since coming to OSSO’s Little Ones.

Our children receive physical and speech therapy

every day, and we are also now benefitted with further therapy assistance from a volunteer from Australia (a professional therapist) who will be in Cuenca for a year or so. She works in coordination with our speech therapist and orphanage coordinator, and trains our volunteers to give the kids the kind of stimulation they need to improve their situation. Her support is very valuable and with her experience and our love we will be able to improve the quality of the life of our children.

Even though the lives of these children are not the best, it is very good due to the support of generous people who are willing to sacrifice some of their own resources to help this project stay and progress. We hope to continue finding generous and charitable people so that these kids can get what they need to be happy and physically and emotionally healthy.

Although it is not possible to help all the children of the world it is still possible to make a difference in the lives of these little ones, OSSO’s Little Ones (Los Pequeñitos de OSSO). The only needed thing is the will of helping.
