Dear ,
It was blistering hot, sun bearing down hard at about 100
degrees, crowds of people waiting to see the doctor and yet it was one of the greatest times since our arrival in Ghana. The last month has been
packed with exciting times of learning, a lot of trying moments, and a great prayer covering from our friends in Ghana and back
home.
This month we were part
of two medical evangelism outreaches that ministered to different people groups, in the Upper West Region and in the Ashanti Region. A
total of 700 patients were loved on, cared for and were presented with the gospel, and over 300 of these chose to follow Christ as their
Savior! Each of the two villages had churches started for the first time - and that is a little of what God has used us in through you this
month. |
We started
June off in Poonyambayiri, about 1 1/2 hours from the city of Wa. Our focus was on an unreached people group called the
Lobi. They were hungry and thirsty for God, and 279 of them chose to give up on idols that require constant sacrifices of fouls and turn to the One God that gave His only Son as a sacrifice for our
lives. |

"For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served, but to serve others, and to give
my life as a ransom for many".

A
BREAKTHROUGH:
Juliana's medical license in
Ghana
While we were able to see God's love in action, Andrew and I were informed that there had been
some changes within the Ghana Medical and Dental Council that made the process to get my license (up to that point, smooth) in the country
take a turn for worse and that I would not be allowed to go through the examination on the 24th of this month.
After mobilizing the church leaders and teamworkers in Ghana, prayer partners in
Brazil and the US interceding, we had a breakthrough that in my opinion was nothing less than a miracle! Through a phone call I was then
informed a comittee had rediscussed my case and decided I was to present myself for the examination, just a few days later. As I entered the room at Korle Bu Hospital in Accra to be interviewed, I was literally being lifted up in prayers from Belo Horizonte, Brazil (where I had a group of ladies praying at 5 in the morning), US (in over 10 different states), UK and
Ghana (good bonding time through trials!). So after a written test and a whole hour of medical questions with two Professors (one of them personally responsible
for the set back, previously very hardened and hostile) we ended the session speaking Twi and exchanging opinions on who would win the World Cup game last Tuesday - when I was notified I was officially able to practice
medicine in the country.
Let's shout from the
mountains that our enemy is defeated and that our Father is the One who grants us the VICTORY - In Him, through Him and For Him: Thank You
Jesus!!! |
Grateful for
our Community!
Over the last
five weeks we have been covered by prayer and received emails and cards in a time of need - we are so grateful that we are part of a
community of people working with us to be effective.
"I am the true vine, and my
Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch that doesn't produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even
more. You have already been pruned for greater fruitfulness by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch
cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful apart from me. Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those
who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:1-5

None of the kids spoke English, yet that didn't stop them from having fun with
Lucas during our outreach in the Ashanti region in the village of Nwirem. Over 300 patients seen, a new church structure was built by the team from
Asbury - and we grew through the experience. |

We hope to hear from you as we enter into July! Enjoy some fireworks
(those of you getting this in the U.S.) and enjoy family together over the holiday. We miss you and hope that you will keep in touch.

It was inspiring to see the children bringing wood logs to hold
up the tents in the remote Lobi village of Poonyambayiri.
Juliana and two other doctors stand next to their sheet-tent consulting
rooms awaiting their patients.
Working in northern Ghana was completely different than
the Ashanti region where we live. Being in the 10/40 window, we grew and learned
as we talked with the people.
Gifts can now be designated to help the work at the lake(the administrative fee is
only 6% so even more goes straight to the work!). Add a note indicating Project #611
