The following is an update on exciting changes in progress as we work together to
continue the legacy with “A New YMCA for A New Downtown.” Our YMCA Burkholder Center will offer our community both a leading-edge
wellness/activity center and a foundation for building and strengthening relationships.
Commemorative celebration and dedication
We recently held a special dedication ceremony to commemorate a Bible being
placed in the foundation of our new chapel. Yes, the Bible itself will be wrapped, sealed and then actually built into the concrete of the threshold
of the chapel doorway. Our own YMCA chaplain, Larry Yarborough, led a time of inspirational words and scripture reading. Those present had the
opportunity to sign their names in this special-edition Bible. The Bible is itself the true foundation of the YMCA's mission.
Progress continues daily
Our facility looks more and more like a “new YMCA” every day! The
new front entrance is starting to take a very definite shape. The architecture will contribute to the updated look of downtown and provide a warm
welcome into our YMCA Burkholder Center. The changes are dramatic, from the exterior framework to the extensive indoor remodeling. The one thing these
changes all have in common is the improvement of member experiences, from top to bottom.
I again invite you to come in and see firsthand the transformations. This is
exciting for our entire YMCA family—volunteers, staff, joyful givers and members!
