The Workshop: This course
teaches the fundamentals of basket making but I can make it challenging enough for an intermediate level. Students will learn which garden plants are
suitable for basket making, when to gather them, how to store them as well as how to process them for basket making. The gathering, storage and
processing of cattails, bulrushes, grasses, willow, larch and other such materials will be explored. Students will be able to use
at least 4 of these materials in their vessels (depending on availability. I gather most of the materials myself and each year the yields a different
harvest). We will use flat or round reed to construct the base and skeleton of the vessels, participants will explore how the different materials can
effect the outcome of their finished vessel. Students will learn at least two base constructions, twinning , three and four rod wale as well as two
rim treatments.Participants will work at their own pace, emphasis will be on individual and personal creativity not perfection making this a fun non
threatening environment full of fun and laughter class.
