Hello from New Zealand
Did you know that as I write this, I'm
sitting right in the middle of a volcano's crater? Sure
it's inactive and hasn't blown for 140,000 years, but it sure makes
you feel a little uneasy when you think about its history.
The huge eruption formed the Rotorua area,
and threw 500 cubic kilometres of rock and ash into the sky. It was
about 300 times the size of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption in Washington; a
major part of US history.
Many areas surrounding Rotorua
are popular tourist destinations because of the level of thermal
activity. You can even step foot on New
Zealand's largest active cone volcano called 'White Island,'
which is off the East Coast of the North Island.
In 1885, a sulphur mining venture began on the island, but stopped in 1914
when part of the crater wall collapsed and a landslide destroyed the sulphur
mine and miners' village - twelve lives were lost. The remains of
buildings from that era are now a tourist attraction. View real-time images of White Island's
floor here.
Thermal activity is only one of the
exciting aspects of our region, so it is not surprising that Rotorua is one of
the top tourist destinations in New
Zealand.
You can experience all this and more when
you coincide your sawmill purchase with a training trip to our
Headquarters here in Rotorua. Remember, we offer free training,
accommodation and meals with any purchase of a Peterson Portable Sawmill.

We hope you enjoy the
March edition of 'Cutting Comments.' See you next month!

Article: Log Playgrounds. . .
A visit to an outstanding producer of log playground equipment revealed another busy shop using log-shaping
machinery made by Dyna Products. The handcrafted and decorative log look has found great appeal in the field of rustic furniture, but the application
is not confined solely to furniture. Such items as rail fences, railings of various types, and picnic tables and benches are also popular. By Bill
Gove
Bears Playgrounds, located in a rural setting outside of Lima, New York, produces a charming and unique product fashioned from logs-their varied
lines of playground fixtures are made almost entirely of white cedar log material. Read more . . .

Chris Browne recently went on a training trip to Nebraska, USA to train Jerry Wagner (who is center in the

Miller Profile . . .
This month our Miller Profile is from Robert Revnell. He is from Michigan, USA and owns an ATS. Early this year
Robert joined the Peterson team as our State Representative for Michigan. Read Robert's Miller Profile or his State Rep profile.
