New Bill Would Help Fund Middle, High School
Activities
Middle and high school students, their advisers and school administrators
may be interested to learn more about a new student activity fee bill making its
way through the Legislature. Senate Bill 6537, sponsored by Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe
(D-Bothell), would impose a 1% surcharge on live entertainment and sporting
events (with certain exclusions). The collected surcharge would be distributed
to school districts and used to support extracurricular activities. The bill was
inspired by students at Mountlake Terrace High who were looking for ways to fund
extracurricular activities.
