Uber Chics and Hot Tomatoes
A couple of week’s ago, The Three Tomatoes head tomato was interviewed by Kennedy Moore, Founder of Ask a New Yorker, one of our favorite NYC web sites. And to our delight, we are this
month’s Uberchic. And since
we’ve always aspired to be an uber anything, we are thrilled. Now you have to understand that Ask a New Yorker is a little quirky, which is one of the things we love about
it. So we didn’t expect the traditional interview, but even knowing that, it started off just plain
weird.
You see Kennedy began by asking questions such as, “What was it like being the Director for the Save Darfur Rally on
the National Mall, and the Democratic National Mid-Atlantic Chairman in the 2000 Presidential election”, and “However did you have
the time to do all that and take that amazing photo Maple Leaf on Fern?” To which we replied oh so cleverly,
duh? You see, it turns out in preparation for the interview, Kennedy had Googled and found who he thought was the head tomato ( it
wasn’t). But honestly, she sounds much more interesting. But hey, we’re Uberchic of the Month, and she’s not.
So if you want to read about our first lemonade stand and other life achievements, read this very funny article at Ask a New Yorker. Oh, and be careful who you Google.
Cosmo Recipe Correction
Some of you thought we had been drinking those cosmos when we were writing up our "secret" killer cosmo
recipe last week. Seems we left out a key ingredient - the cranberry juice! So here it is again.
Pour the following ingredients into a blender to make 4 perfect comos. 1 cup vodka, 1/2 cup cranberry juice, 1/2 cup
triple sec, 1/2 cup lime juice, add about 4 or 5 ice cubes. Blend for a few seconds. The secret is the blender.
Tomatoes are Hot
We’ve had another really hectic, but really fun tomato week. It started off Sunday with a group of
fabulous tomatoes, a couple of great tomato husbands, and our favorite little tomato in training, who joined us on one of the hottest days of the year
for Memorial Sloan- Kettering’s annual Rock and Run Race on the River, a 5K run/walk to celebrate cancer
survivors. A few of the tomatoes ran, and the rest of our group walked. We all made it to the finish
line, hot and tired, with the exception of our youngest teammate, Kylie, who at the age of 5 was one of the youngest walkers, if not
the youngest walker. She of course skipped her way to the finish line, so excited that “she won the
race.” And in our book she did. (If only we could bottle some of that energy.)
You can check out the photos of
the hot team. So far our team has raised $2585. Thanks to all our sponsors! Our goal is $5,000, and you can still make a contribution to our team,
And the tomatoes got even hotter
We recovered from the walk/run in time for our latest The Three Tomatoes Insider Event this past Monday, on
another record-breaking heat day. We joined about 100 tomatoes and friends at the blessedly cool (temperature wise) and cool
(hip-wise) downstairs private room at Tony’s diNapoli
in Times Square for dinner and a preview of “Spit it Out”, an original play written and performed by Valerie Smaldone and Amy Coleman. What a great night. We are still
stuffed from the yummy five course dinner and we have finally recovered from the copious quantities of wine we drank as well.
Tony’s owner Bruce and the entire staff are simply amazing. Many thanks.
And the show is fun indeed. With a great cast led by Valerie and Amy, it featured the very funny and
talented Stephen Bienskie whom we just love and
predict that he will become a big Broadway star. And we were thrilled when our very good looking waiter (who also happens to be an
actor), Vincent LoRusso, joined the cast too. The music is great, featuring a number of original songs with lyrics
by Amy Coleman, and belted out as only Amy can do. Donna Kelly the musical director (drums and percussion) who
along with Susan Tahmoosh on the keyboard were great. And there would be no show, without the terrific
director, Valentina Fratti. We’re rooting for them to get this show to off-Broadway.
And very special thanks to our sponsors, Lou Snitkin of
Belmarc Realty, and Grandparents.com. And check out their Casting Call to star
with your grandchild in their new travel show—and take the trip of a lifetime to Alaska.
We also raised nearly $600 for The Actors
Fund thanks to donated raffle items from Nina McLemore, Joe Cipri and the
School of Visual Arts, Beauty and Wellness Spa, Smart Workout, Grandparents.com, The Actors Fund, and Tony's diNapoli.

Upcoming New York Insider Events
We’ve got some great plans in the works for upcoming “insider” events, like private tours and teas (or
cocktails) at some of NYC’s historic buildings, museums, and parks; summer Karaoke Tuesday Nights; and this fall, a couple
of private screenings of documentaries we think tomatoes will love. So stay tuned. And
we’d love your feedback on your interest in possible events this summer. Hey, we’re not all in the
Hamptons. So please take this week’s
poll at our home page.
And speaking of events, the Advertising Club of
New York has a very special event coming up for those of you in the ad business. It’s a
luncheon and panel presentation called, THE FEMININE MYSTIQUE: The Status of Women in Marketing, Advertising &
Media — and its Impact on the Bottom Line. June 26th at the New York Athletic
Club. For details, click
here.
Okay tomatoes. We’re hot and we’re tired, so that’s it for this week.
‘til next week,
