Session on NYC DOE Progress Reports, Nov. 19, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm: New York City's new rating system for
schools generated a spectrum of responses last week, including how and if the system should apply to public charter schools. In an effort to answer
questions and walk interested charter schools through progress reports and grading, the New York City Center for Charter School Excellence will host
a session on Monday, November 19, 2007, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
City Department of Education (DOE) representatives from the Office of Student Performance and
Accountability and the Office of Charter Schools will be present. Our hope is to start the conversation and potentially get charters excited
about participating on a voluntary basis. We invite all charter leaders as well as stakeholders (CSI, CEI-PEA, etc.,) to attend. Please RSVP to
Nadine Patterson.
The CenterPiece New!
This issue of the Charter Leader News features a new commentary section - The CenterPiece - where we hope to solicit
guest editors and underscore issues of importance and concern to the city's charter school community. Click here to read Center CEO James
Merriman's argument for why charters should be graded under the new rating system.
