DEAN'S FACULTY EXCELLENCE ENDOWMENT ESTABLISHED

The College of Business is pleased to announce the establishment of the Dean’s Faculty Excellence Endowment, a $4 million fund created to provide perpetual funding opportunities to support fellowships and summer research grants for highly productive faculty in the College of Business.

The Dean’s Faculty Excellence Endowment is the newest permanently endowed fund at the College of Business. “Endowed funds are critical to the college’s success in attracting and retaining top-tier faculty and recruiting high quality students,” Dean Himarios said. “We are committed to significantly increasing the number of our endowments to support a high level of academic and research activity within the college.” The college currently operates 66 permanently endowed funds to support research, faculty posts and scholarships.

AFTER 30+ YEARS,

DR. CARL MCDANIEL STEPPING DOWN AS MARKETING CHAIR

Professor Carl McDaniel stepped down as chair of the Marketing Department in May, a position he has held since 1977.

Dr. Larry Chonko, the Thomas McMahon Professor in Business Ethics, has assumed this administrative post.

Dean Himarios praised Dr. McDaniel for his service, saying “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Carl for the last 25 years at the College of Business. He has been an outstanding leader for both the Marketing Department and the college. So much of the growth and strength of our marketing program is owed to Carl and I thank him for his outstanding work.”

Himarios added, “At the same time, I am so pleased to have Dr. Larry Chonko assume the chair. Larry’s vision and experience are ideal for this critical role.”

This spring the Marketing Department ranked 44th in the Top 100 Business School Research Rankings conducted by the School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas. This ranking places the UT Arlington Marketing Department ahead of such institutions as Notre Dame, Purdue, Baylor and Texas A&M in research activity.

Greetings from the College of Business at UT Arlington.

We are pleased to launch the college’s first e-newsletter designed to keep you in the know about our work and the achievements of your fellow alumni, students and faculty.

We have good reason to be proud.

The college has grown to be one of the largest business schools in the nation. We are nationally recognized through our earned accreditation by AACSB, the world’s largest accrediting association for business schools. Our college is among an elite group of less than 10% of U.S. business schools that are fully accredited at all degree levels and in both business administration and accounting.

This spring UT Arlington earned a place among the The Top 100 Business School Research Rankings conducted by the School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas. The rankings are based on research contributions in 22 select academic journals from 2005-2008. The Marketing and Management programs were also ranked for research our faculty published in professional journals.

We seek to be greater still.

We endeavor to become a premier business school in Texas and to be widely regarded as the institution of choice for advanced business education in the North Texas region.

We need your help.

Later this summer I will invite you to participate in an on-line survey about the College of Business through this e-newsletter. I hope you will take the short amount of time necessary to participate. The opinions of our alumni are important. Your participation will enable us to better serve not only our alumni, but current students as well.

Thank you for your support.

 BUSINESS WEEK 2008

Each year, the College of Business hosts Business Week to connect students with industry leaders of the highest caliber. For Business Week 2008, the college partnered with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. This year’s theme was the impact that Glorypark will have on Arlington and Tarrant County.

The highlight of the week—held March 10-14 this year—was the keynote address by Yaromir Steiner, Chief Executive Officer of Steiner + Associates, an Ohio-based development, leasing and property management company. Glorypark is a partnership between Steiner + Associates and Hicks Holdings.

Among the leaders of the New Urbanism movement, Steiner and his company are developing Glorypark’s mix of retail, entertainment, residential, office and hospitality uses.

Classrooms were packed with speakers associated with the Glorypark project. These speakers explained first hand the economic, civic, political, physical, financial and environmental impacts of this mega development located just a few miles from the UT Arlington campus.

For audio files, presentation slides and video of the Glorypark-Business Week presentations, please visit www.uta.edu/realestate/gloryparkcase.htm.

Details of Business Week 2009 are expected to be announced this summer.
