Stanley Street Treatment and Resources (SSTAR), Fall River Facilitating Problem Gambling Clinical Treatment Groups -- This one-day workshop will guide clinicians through the process of establishing a clinical treatment group for people with gambling problems. Techniques to keep groups focused and effective will be emphasized.

THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2008

College of the Holy Cross, Worcester The Next Steps in Treating Gambling Disorders: Identifying Comorbidity & Countertransference Issues and Understanding Family Therapy and Self-Help Resources --A one-day workshop to explore treatment of problem gamblers with co-morbid disorders and their family members, as well as address countertransference and self-help resources.

ONLINE COURSE #1 -- FRIDAY, APRIL 25, 2008 THROUGH SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2008

Recognizing and Managing Countertransference in Problem Gambling Clinical Work -- This online course is an intensive study of countertransference and how it impacts clinical judgment and treatment. This advanced-level course requires a review of current literature, as well as clinical seminar-type e-discussions with other participants and the instructor for 12 CEUs.

ONLINE COURSE #2 --BEGINNING MONDAY, MAY 26, 2008 --END DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED

The Gambling Brain: How It Works & How to Treat It -- This online course will explain the role of biochemistry in the development of a gambling problem and in its treatment. It will discuss the cross priming effect of other addictions on gambling disorders. The course will also review how gambling problems are addressed with medications and/or psychotherapeutic treatment. This advanced-level course requires a review of current literature, as well as clinical seminar-type e-discussions with other participants and the instructor for CEUs (pending).



The Council's goal is to provide clinicians and other human service providers throughout the State with the ability to identify, screen, assess, treat and refer clients with gambling problems.  Professionals will learn how to incorporate problem gambling information and treatment skills into their work, and increase their skills in interventions, addictions treatment, and case management for people experiencing gambling disorders.

 

Regional Problem Gambling Trainings offer a variety of opportunities for clinicians to earn continuing education units (CEUs). 

 

The Council offers technical assistance and in-service trainings for clinicians (leading to certificates or national certifications as compulsive gambling counselors) and any other professional or community-based organization representatives who are interested.
