BREAST CANCER LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Join us for an educational and motivational day of tips and advice for both the grassroots
activist and the grassroots fundraiser on Tuesday, October 10, the day before the PBCC Annual Conference, at the Harrisburg Hilton. The 2006 Breast Cancer Leadership Training will show you how one person
really can make a difference - and have a lot of fun doing it! Two workshops will focus on what you can do in your
community to raise awareness about breast cancer and advocacy issues, and will feature event planning tips from PBCC grassroots leaders. Complete the application form and return it to the PBCC by
August 25 to be considered for the seminar. I look forward to seeing you there!

Lancaster Chamber of Commerce Office Olympics

The PBCC recently participated in the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce's 1st Annual
Office Olympics. Our team came in a respectable 8th out of 20 teams and had a blast! Above, Sarah Lightman and Amy Collins compete
in the paper box relay. Look at that determination!
Calling All Exhibitors
Do you have products or services of interest to our conference
attendees? Don't miss your chance to exhibit at the Harrisburg Hilton to our audience of breast cancer survivors, medical professionals, and others!
Exhibit spaces filled early last year with everything from jewelry, clothing and boutique items to information about magnetic imaging centers and
other services. Spaces cost $350 for the day and the Exhibitor Form can be found here.
Photo of the Month

Lauren and Peter Derby recently used their wedding day to raise funds for the PBCC! In
lieu of wedding favors, they made a donation. They created postcards to give to each guest explaining this. Above, the bride and groom
show how they shared their special day with the PBCC. Thank you, Lauren and Peter! We wish you both continued health and
happiness!

Fundraiser of the Month

On Friday, July 30, the PBCC traveled to Westmoreland County for a unique
FUNdraiser. Susan Yadamec-Baumgard (above, center, with the PBCC's Kim Eubanks and Dolores Magro) donated the proceeds of her dance
company's annual recital to the PBCC! In addition to donating ticket money, the dance company held a Chinese auction of fabulous donated gift
baskets. Over $5100 was raised in one evening! Thanks Susan, Barry, and all the wonderful dancers!

Dear ,
NEW DRUG HOLDS PROMISE FOR CERTAIN TYPE OF BREAST CANCER
|
Since 1998, the drug Herceptin® has been used to treat
HER2-positive breast cancers that have spread to other organs. Many patients with HER2-positive, advanced breast cancer eventually become
resistant to Herceptin® therapy, so new treatments are needed. Tykerb® is an experimental
drug that, like Herceptin®, blocks the activity of the HER2 protein, but it does so by a different mechanism. A new
study shows that combining the experimental Tykerb® with the drug capecitabine delayed the progression of breast cancer for
nearly twice as long as did treatment with capecitabine alone in patients with advanced breast cancer that had progressed
following treatment with Herceptin®.
Charles E. Geyer, Jr., MD, of Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh is the
lead author of the study. Future clinical trials are planned to directly compare Tykerb® to Herceptin®, and to test the value of combining the two drugs.
