Columbia Avenue Resurfacing Begins Monday 7/9
Resurfacing of Columbia Avenue from the West Harpeth River to Battle Avenue will begin on Monday, July 9, excluding the new intersection work at Parkway Commons. This nearly six-mile project will involve surface milling, asphalt overlay, and re-striping. This is a TDOT project contracted to Lojac Enterprises, Inc. It is scheduled to take approximately 30 days with work hours on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. The Lojac construction manager has indicated that they may request night or weekend work which would be an excellent idea! There will be lane shifts and lane closure delays during construction, so you should do everything you can to avoid Columbia Avenue during this process.

Transportation Advisory Committee from Monday
1. Denied extending the 40 MPH speed limit on Highway 96 West to 500 feet west of the entrance to Westhaven at Old Charlotte Pike. Staff recommended disapproval. We suggested that Southern Land Company continue to monitor traffic counts coming from Westhaven and keep the city apprised - the eventual signalization of the intersection at Old Charlotte Pike is the optimum goal when traffic counts warrant this improvement. When this occurs, speed limit reductions on Highway 96 West will also be required.

2. Forwarded to BOMA request to reduce the speed limit on Liberty Pike from 40 to 30 MPH from 250 feet west of the intersection of Turning Wheel Lane to the eastern boundary of McKay's Mill. This will be presented without committee recommendation. Staff recommended disapproval since this road is an arterial and all residential access is to collector streets at intersections.

3. Discussed request from Spring Creek Center Development for a traffic Signal on McEwen Drive between I-65 and Mallory Lane. The committee requested information for the July 10 BOMA meeting detailing why a median cut has been granted at this location. I believe this median cut is too close to the interchange and will hamper the flow of traffic exiting and accessing the interstate, which is the purpose of this interchange - staff agrees.

4. Recommended construction administration agreement for Royal Oaks Boulevard @ Highway 96 East intersection improvement project. This is a TDOT requirement that will add significant cost to this project and will require funding with local dollars.

5. Recommended 4-way stop at the intersection of Second Avenue South and Church Street.
