Who Is Closer To Abramoff?
Burns' Acts Match Ney’s Guilty Plea
(Helena, MT) Today, Montana Democratic Party Chief Jim Farrell released a detailed comparison of the criminal
acts of Ohio Congressman Bob Ney and Montana’s Sen. Conrad Burns that show how Sen. Burns has put his office up for sale to corrupt Washington
lobbyists in exchange for illegal gifts that included lavish trips, tickets to sporting events, and hundreds of thousands in campaign
contributions.
“The similarities between
Congressman Ney’s crimes and the actions of Senator Burns and his staff are remarkable,” said Farrell. “In
both cases, there were lavish vacations paid for by Jack Abramoff; there were thousands of dollars worth of meals and drinks at
Abramoff’s restaurant, Signatures in Washington, DC.; tickets to professional sporting events; huge campaign
contributions in exchange for votes and other official acts by both Mr. Ney and Senator Burns, and other criminal
violations.”
TIME Magazine has confirmed that Montana Senator Conrad Burns is the focus of this U.S. Justice Department’s corruption and bribery
investigation of a large number of elected government officials, their staff Washington lobbyists, most notably ‘Casino Jack’
Abramoff. According to TIME, “particular scrutiny is being paid to Senator Conrad Burns.”
