Greeks of the Week:
Delta Sigma Theta
Whitney Carr
Not many people can say that they step well enough to make it onto a movie set. Most do not
even get the opportunity to show their talent in various shows. But the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., right here at MTSU, got lucky
enough to step in front of the producer of a new hit movie that was all about the amazing art of stepping.
Just as rumors were flying about a movie in the works about stepping, the women of Delta
Sigma Theta were set to perform at UT Chattanooga. After they rocked the house with their step show, they were approached by director and producer of
“Stomp the Yard” about representing the Deltas in his new film.
“They informed us that they had been to different step shows in other states and we
were the only group of Delta's who had enthusiasm, energy, precision, originality, and they enjoyed how the crowd reacted to our Boxing theme”
says Natalie Ellis, Iota Tau chapter president.
Filming may be hard work, but meeting the stars of the movie was well worth it.
“We met almost everyone,” Ellis explained,
“except for Chris Brown because he was not there that day.”
In the end, an incredible movie was made showcasing a talent that most only wish they could
perfect. And we can brag that on our campus, we have movie stars. We have the best Deltas in the country. |

The Congregation of Fraternity Men
John Carter
Members of the Inter-Fraternity Council, including all eight executive officers and six
delegates, represented MTSU at the Southeastern Inter-Fraternity Conference, held February 15-18 in Atlanta, GA. With over 40
colleges and universities in attendance, the 41st edition of SEIFC was a highly beneficial and educational leadership
academy.
Keynote speakers shared guidance and life experience concerning topics that many higher
education students, both Greek and non-Greek alike, face on a daily basis. Among them were gambling, overcoming catastrophic events, and entering the
professional workplace. Other messages, specific to fraternity life, addressed issues ranging from sustaining accomplished Greek
Life programs to emphasizing gentlemanly conduct. Representatives also took part in interactive seminars with other students,
sharing ideas on how to improve all aspects of the fraternity experience, from the individual level to the council level. Becoming
a more prominent council on campus, heightening relations with administration, and diversifying community out reach projects were discussed as a
council. Chapter presidents from member institutions exchanged ideas and studied helpful strategies concerning the education of
new members, more efficiently managing chapter finances, and recruiting high quality gentlemen. Individually, all those in
attendance received training on honing their leadership skills and utilizing their talents and abilities.
The weekend concluded with the election of the 2008 SEIFC Executive Board and a formal
banquet. The MTSU Inter-Fraternity Council plans to attend next year, tentatively scheduled for February 14-17, 2008, again in
Atlanta, GA. |
A Panty Success
Whitney Carr
The first annual Panhellenic Panty Party went better than anyone could have dreamed. As the
clock struck 7, there were already people pouring in, piling their donations onto tables that turned out to be too small. Maybe it was the pizza, the
cookies, or the exciting games that made people stick around, but whatever it was, Greek women and men were out in full force to socialize and donate
for a good cause. No one expected Greeks would give as much as they did. The most popular items were feminine hygiene products, closely followed by
372 undergarments and 242 razors. Over 3,000 total items were donated! All of this will go directly to the Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter
of Murfreesboro. Because of its great attendance and giving spirit, the Panhellenic Council hopes to bring this back next year, possibly in a larger
venue. Thanks to everyone who donated time, money and items to the Women’s Shelter. For a list of total donations, contact Cassie Venable or
Whitney Carr. |
