Welcome Back Blue Raiders!
Josh McKenzie
The summer has come and gone, the beach trips have ended, but the heat still remains as
the Blue Raider community returns to class this week. The Greek community welcomes you back to campus for an exciting fall semester. Whether you are a
freshman or a fifth year senior, there is a plethora of events happening on campus over the next few weeks to enjoy and take part
in.
While you were gone, campus stayed busy and underwent a few changes that should be
noted. Former Director of Greek Life, Gentry McCreary, left MTSU at the end of July to start his position as the Director of Greek Life at the
University of Alabama. The office name has changed as well. New for the fall semester is the moniker The Office of Greek Affairs, which falls under
the new Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CeSIL). The Office of Greek Affairs is located in the Keathley University Center, room 326 if
assistance is ever needed.
The upcoming weeks are packed with events on the MTSU campus, whether it is Week of Welcome
events, athletic games, or recruitment, the fall is back and looking bright for the Greek community. Visit the Greek Affairs website to discover a
calendar of campus events, recruitment dates, and more. Welcome again to Blue Raider country. Be Loud! Be Proud! Be BLUE!

Find Your Passion in Greek Life
Sarah Russell
To many students, the end of summer means leaving the pool and returning to class.
But to the Greek women of MTSU, the beginning of fall semester can only mean one thing, sorority recruitment.
Panhellenic recruitment gives potential new members the opportunity to visit each sorority and find
the organization that fits them best. Recruitment also gives each sorority the chance to demonstrate the qualities they are most
proud of in their organization.
With this year’s theme, “Find Your Passion,” the recruitment staff hopes to
emphasize the fact that each potential new member can find a sorority that best fits her.
After months of planning already underway, the recruitment staff and Rho Sigma recruitment
counselors hope that this year will be even more successful than years past. By scheduling it for September 19-24, sorority women
and Panhellenic Council have more opportunities to promote Greek life on campus through events like the newly revised GreekFest.
GreekFest is a great way for anyone interested in Greek life to meet members of the Greek community
while enjoying a night of food, fun, and prizes. GreekFest will be held on September 11 from 7 to 11 on the fields next to
Cummings Hall. An informational meeting will be held on September 13 in the BAS State Farm room for all those participating in or
interested in sorority recruitment.
With a recruitment staff that is eager to make the Fall 2007 recruitment the most successful one
yet, each organization is looking forward to welcoming a successful pledge class in September. Not only will these new members
hope to find their passion in a sorority, but the members of each organization will have the opportunity to show the passion they have for their own
sisterhood. |

Fraternity Recruitment: The
First Step to Getting Involved
Nathan Haynes
A great part of being in college is all of the different ways you
can get involved. There are over 300 student organizations at MTSU, with representation from a diverse cross-section of students on our campus.
One of the best ways to get plugged into our campus is by joining
a fraternity. The 11 IFC fraternities at MTSU all offer a unique set of values and opportunities for their members.
Whether you're interested in scholastic achievement, leadership
development, service to the community, or the busiest social calendars on campus, our fraternities offer something for everyone. Simply put,
there's no better way to get more out of the college experience than through membership in a Greek organization.
By joining a fraternity, you are consciously making the
effort to make yourself a better person. You will have brothers at your side to help you out when you are struggling, and to encourage you when you
are excelling. Don't just be an average student. Go above and beyond, break the mold, be something more!
I encourage you to find out more about what
our fraternity community has to offer by visiting our website at www.mtsu.edu/~greeks . On the
website, you can find out more about each fraternity and find answers to frequently asked questions. You can also sign up for Fall Fraternity
Recruitment, which will take place September 24th-29th.
Also, we have a couple of other events before formal
recruitment. Come join us for GreekFest, a celebration for all students on the Old Intramural fields by Cummings Hall. We are also having our
fraternity informational meeting on September 13th, 7:00pm, in the Cason Kennedy Nursing Building Room 121. |
