Plum Perfect Time of Year at the Market

It's a great time of year to see the endless possibilities of what can be grown in Tennessee. From luscious plums to sweet corn, you can find it in the Farm Sheds in July. While our farm sheds are filling up with local farmers on Fridays and Saturdays, make sure to visit our retailers and larger farms that are here everyday during the growing season.

Many of our retailers carry the best in local produce from farms that they have been buying from for decades. Try fresh Tennessee beans from Tammy's Produce, organic produce from Eco-Organics farm at Barnes Produce or fresh Tennessee peaches, plums and blackberries from Robertson Produce and farm fresh October beans from Hardy's Produce to name just a few.

New! Chef demonstrations every Saturday!

beginning July 19th (the Summer Grill Party) the Farmers' Market will feature weekly chef demonstrations with Chef Joe Shaw of the Standard Restaurant at the Smith House. Every Saturday Chef Joe, or guest chef, will bring their expertise in weekly installment showing shoppers how to prepare some of the best fresh produce from local farms and available at the Market. Find Joe on Saturdays at 11 a.m. in Farm Shed #2, spaces 160 & 161.

We are excited to partner with Chef Joe and the Standard Restaurant as they work to become one of Nashville's strongest supporters of fresh, local food.

Smiley Farm Celebrates Summer - and birthdays - with a Tomato Sale

According to farmer Troy Smiley - he has a terrible birthday every year. He was unlucky enough to be born in the middle of tomato season (they grow just a few tomatoes), and has spent most of his birthdays in the fields or delivering tomatoes to market.

This year poor Troy has decided to turn his birthday into a celebration of the tomato. Stop by Smiley's this week and when you purchase 5 pounds of his delicious tomatoes, they are only $1 a pound. What a great excuse to buy a few bushels and make your own tomato sauce, ketchup or stewed tomatoes. Make sure to wish Troy a happy birthday while you're at it too.
