Lap of Luxury—Success Stories
Stella
was only 15 months old when she came to Boston Buddies after one of
the other dogs she was living with in the backyard started beating up
on her. When Stella arrived in rescue it was clear to us that she was
a happy young Boston girl who loved each new day and wanted nothing
more than to give kisses and be a part of the family and live indoors
like any proper Boston should! Stella met Stanley and knew right away
that he was just her type of guy—Stanley loves life too!
Stella’s new family loves her to pieces and sent us this update:
We adopted Stella
in April of this year, and she is just doing so well. She and our other
Boston, Stanley, are by far best friends. They sleep together, play
together, eat together—everything. She really has completed our
lives in every way. She has brought so much joy to us and she
constantly puts a smile on our face.

Special Needs Buddies
Rocco
is a 7 year old boy who was relinquished to Boston Buddies by his
owners with the hope that we could get him the medical care that he
needed. We took Rocco to the veterinary dermatologist and after
running several tests and taking multiple skin biopsies, Rocco has
been diagnosed with pemphigus—an autoimmune skin disorder.
Rocco has been
started on a drug treatment protocol to control the pemphigus and
allow the many lesions covering his body to heal.
While Rocco
waits for the drug therapy to work he is spending his days in the same
fabulous foster home as Hope. Rocco’s foster mom gives him
medicated baths to soothe his skin and remove the old, crusty lesions,
giving him some temporary relief. Rocco enjoys his days napping
and his eyes light up at the thought of some of the delicious Canine
Caviar!
Once Rocco’s pemphigus is in control we are certain he will return
to being the happy go lucky funny boy he once was. He loves
people, dogs and cats. He absolutely adores getting under the
blankets and giving lots of Boston kisses. And even though he is
not feeling 100% he will still give you that little Boston wiggle when
he sees you.
Stay tuned for
more Rocco updates!
Star
Volunteer—Jan
Roberts

A
long-time animal lover, Jan’s first baby in this world was Rocky, a
beautiful boxer. 15 years after losing Rocky, Jan decided the mourning was over,
and she was ready for another flat-faced love bug in her life.
With her love for all things that snort and snore, Jan
volunteered to be a foster parent with Boston Buddies, against the
advice of all of her friends and family, who knew she would have a
hard time letting the love bugs go once they were adopted. She has
been volunteering for the past three years.
Jan
was initiated into fostering with Quincy, a frail Bosty with terminal
chronic leukemia.
Told that Quincy had just a few weeks to live, Jan was
determined to make those two weeks the best of Quincy’s life. Two weeks quickly turned into two years—and Jan enjoyed every
minute of her time with sweet Quincy.
Known for taking in the less fortunate, the down and out, and the old
and decrepit, Jan takes them in with love and compassion.
She has never suffered from “foster failure”—the
inability to let a dog go to its new home.
“The best part of fostering is seeing these bundles of joy go
to their new home and knowing that I did all I could to prepare them
for the glorious life ahead of them,” said Jan.
“I love watching them blossom when they are showered with
love and affection.”
Jan
has reared every Boston personality—those that walk for miles to
those that just won’t give up the ball to those that suffer from
severe anxiety disorders. From Q and Jed to Dayna and Jackie, to beloved Quincy, they all
hold a special place in her heart.
Jan’s table of photos of all of her dogs gives her much joy.
The photo featured above is of Jan and Jed, a feisty little rascal.
In
Her Own Words—I can’t say enough about the Buddies,
they have rescued so many dogs. It’s challenging and never-ending
work. I’m so happy I can help out just a little bit. And
honestly, the dogs really do ask for so little and give back so much.
When they get adopted it's very much like sending a child off to
school, I’m so proud of them. There was only one that really tugged
at my heartstrings when he left, he was a senior who lived for his
ball. When I saw him toddle off to his new owners car and put his
beloved tennis ball in the cup-holder, I admit, I teared up...
Many thanks to Jan for her selfless dedication to Boston Buddies. We
love you, and the dogs do too!

Boston
Buddies has no employees. All of the rescue work is done by unpaid
volunteers who devote as much of their time as they can outside of
work, home and family. Without the financial assistance we receive
from the generous donations made by the public, we could not continue
to exist. Thank you for allowing us to help the Bostons in need!

Meet
Marcus (left) and Hope (right), two of our wonderful seniors available
for adoption. While each of these Bostons has lost an eye, they
haven’t lost their zest for life. They still love a good belly rub and
a warm lap to snuggle in. See all of our dogs by clicking
