NEW - 2nd Edition

Sales & Operation Planning:
The Self-Audit Workbook, 2nd Edition

by Tom Wallace and Bob Stahl

In these difficult times, demand and supply management processes need to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.  We've designed these checklists to help look at your Executive S&OP, Sales Forecasting and Master Scheduling and find out what you're doing well and what you need to do better. With that information you can use action steps to ensure that each process is as effective as it can be.

This book walks you through the self-audit process in a way that helps eliminate finger pointing and gets you and your team reach specific action steps that are agreed upon, documented, have timelines, and are assigned to specific individuals.

Executive S&OP
Have you ever wanted to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your S&OP process but don't know where to start?  The 2nd Edition of The Self-Audit Workbook provides the tools for you to do just that - and provides an Excel™ spreadsheet for easy calculations.

Sales Forecasting

In your company, is Sales Forecasting a continual source of friction and finger-pointing? The Sales Forecasting checklist in this book provides a process to help everyone understand where forecasting has gone off target.  As Tom and Bob state in their book Sales Forecasting: A New Approach, forecasting will never be 100% accurate but it can be valid, good enough to be the basis for sound decision making.  Using this checklist can assist you in getting to the point where forecasts are meaningful and can be ussed with confidence and agreement.

Master Scheduling

Almost all companies use Master Scheduling because it's a key component of an effective supply chain management process. The checklist provided in this book can show you what needs to be done to make Master Scheduling the strong, effective process that it needs to be.  This checklist is taken from Tom and Bob's book Master Scheduling in the 21st Century.

Features in Sales & Operations Planning: The Self-Audit Workbook:

  • How to assess your current processes for balancing demand and supply across your entire supply chain.
  • How to gain consensus on the most important areas for improvement, and generate enthusiasm and energy for those improvements.
  • How to manage the improvement tasks effectively - by showing assignments and target completion dates, thereby facilitating follow-up.
  • Plus an important appendix - one that focuses on raising and resolving conflict, and plenty of space for notetaking.

CHICAGO S&OP CONFERENCE SOLD OUT!

This event,  co-sponsored by APICS and the
Institute of Business Forecasting and Planning, filled up quickly and closed out at 250 attendees.

To all of you who wanted to attend but couldn’t get in, we apologize. It seems we had an imbalance between demand and supply. The APICS and IBF people assure us
that the event will be repeated but that won’t happen until next year.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for an educational event on Sales & Operations Planning, you might consider two offerings by these organizations:

  • The APICS International Conference in Kansas City during September 14-16. This event will contain an entire flight devoted to S&OP and Demand Planning/Forecasting. One of the speakers will be Bob Stahl, who is arguably the world’s leading expert on how to implement Executive S&OP.
  • The IBF Executive Forum, Phoenix, September 22-23. Tom Wallace will be leading a half-day workshop/panel discussion on Executive S&OP. The other workshop leaders are Ken Kahn from Purdue University on New Product Forecasting and Larry Lapide from MIT on Demand Management, two of the primary thought leaders in the field.
  • For some time now, Tom and Bob have been teaching a day-and-a-half session on Executive S&OP for the IBF. One is in the works for December, and as soon as we have dates and a location, we’ll let you know.

BOB, BILL AND TOM SPEAKING AT AME INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) has asked both Bob and Tom to speak at this year’s conference in Toronto.

Bob will be presenting on Monday, October 20 along with our associate Bill Kerber
about: The S&OP/Lean Connection. Bill has expertise in both Executive S&OP and Lean Manufacturing; he serves on the Publications Board of the Lean Enterprise Institute.

Tom will speak the following Friday on a topic near and dear to his heart: How Sales & Operations Planning Supports Postponement. Both of these are half-day sessions, so there will be plenty of time to develop the topic and work with the attendees.
