Introducing our New Patient Services Outreach Coordinator
Please welcome Giovanna Velazquez Perez, the newest addition to the Y-ME Illinois
team! Giovanna started working for Y-ME Illinois as the Patient Services Outreach
Coordinator in May and is already busy reaching out to communities around the
Chicagoland area. Giovanna has a Bachelor in Social Work from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master's
degree in Health Social Work from the Jane Addams College of Social Work, University
of Illinois at Chicago. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Chicago
in 1999.
The innumerable disparities experienced by ethnic minorities inspire Giovanna's
deep commitment to empowering others. As the Patient Services Outreach Coordinator
for Y-ME Illinois, she will have the opportunity to aid the public by providing
necessary resources in breast health, breast cancer prevention and early detection.
She thinks that the development of culturally competent professionals will ultimately
improve the health status and health care delivery for minority communities.
Her main goal is to continue making a difference in reducing cancer health disparities
affecting many women in ethnic communities.
