Her electrifying stage presence and eclectic musical stylings have drawn the attention of Sony Music. She is Angelique Kidjo, one of Africa ’s most exciting artists, and she will make you dance at the first World Stage Series event on Thursday, September 29 at

Born in Benin , Kidjo fuses the West African traditions of her childhood with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. With three Grammy nominations and collaborations with Santana, Gilberto Gil and Dave Matthews, she is, without doubt, one of the most versatile artists today.

Kidjo considered becoming a human rights lawyer, but decided she could reach more people through music. She serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. “I believe music is a language beyond the color of skin, country or culture,” says Kidjo. “I want to inspire people to work to help educate, nourish and protect our children.”

This socially conscientious artist performs songs in English, French, and the African languages Yoruba and Fon. And she rocks!
