AΓΡ and AOΠ Host Blood Drive

Jonathan Joy

The ladies of Alpha Omicron Pi and the gentlemen of Alpha Gamma Rho joined together last week to hold a blood drive benefiting the Red Cross.  The drive was held at the AGR house on Greek Row.  Plans for the drive began when AOΠ contacted AΓP.

“[AOΠ] simply wanted to work with an organization that we do not get the opportunity to do a lot with,” said Amanda Newell, philanthropy chair for AOΠ.  “I contacted AΓP, and since they already had plans do to a blood drive, AOΠ joined in and made it a group effort.”

According to Emily Porter, president of AOΠ, over 60 donors came to the house to give blood.

“[The drive] was very successful.  I would love to make it an annual event,” said Newell.

Up ‘Til Dawn Wants You!

Josh McKenzie

Up ‘Til Dawn is MTSU’s largest fundraiser, benefiting St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Last year alone, MTSU raised over $96,000, and for 2008, a larger goal of $105,000 has been set. This is where you and your chapter’s help are needed. Over the past seven years the fundraiser has been in existence at MTSU, the Greek community has been extremely active in raising a great deal of money for the hospital. This year proves to be no different so far, but there is still time to register your team!

The deadline for Team Registration is December 14th! A team consists of six people (grab 5 of your brothers/sisters!) joining together to raise at least $600 (only $100/person!). The executive officers of Up ‘Til Dawn will help your team in brainstorming with ideas on how to raise that money. The letter writing campaign is the easiest way to raise your minimum of $600, simply contact Up ‘Til Dawn to receive the materials necessary. For more information concerning team registration, please contact Josh McKenzie (jnm3b@mtsu.edu) or visit the website at www.mtsu.edu/~uptldawn.

What is Greek Life Thankful For?

Whitney Carr

The Holiday season is here and so are warm fuzzy feelings of stuffed birds and afternoon naps. Some of us will be deer hunting after our Thanksgiving meal and others will be dropping some serious dough on Black Friday. Then there are the sweet families that take the time to say what they are thankful for in life, and since we are a giant, dysfunctional family we decided to see what the kids really appreciate:

“I’m thankful for J. Ruskin Carter for taking my place as chapter president and leading KA into uncharted territory.”

Nick Palmer-Kappa Alpha, IFC VP of Recruitment

“I'm thankful for Cover Girl Mascara and for Bonne Bell Fruit Punch lip gloss. I'm also thankful for Croakies because now I never lose my sunglasses!”

Sara Anne Culberson-Kappa Delta

“I’m thankful for everything, but most of all I’m thankful that the Dallas Cowboys are still winning.”

Justin Phillips-Phi Beta Sigma, NPHC President

“I am thankful for Pumpkin Spice Frappucinos at Starbucks because they are delicious! Everyone should try one!”

Kellye Zamata-Alpha Chi Omega

“I am thankful for my Queen Bee, my yellow convertible mustang. I am thankful for when I have my top down how my hair blows. I am also thankful for Forever 21, Macy's, Level 10, and the many stores that keep my style up. ”

Lauren Simpson-Alpha Kappa Alpha

Happy Thanksgiving!
