GREETINGS

The cold crud is clawing its way through our local community and school.  I learned something new at the doctor's office today as my younger son was being treated for an earache. We were reminded that water and sleep are great cold fighters and additionally, the lack of sweets helps too. A recent study revealed that white blood cells normally can attack 15 unwanted creepies in the body. When under the influence of sugar, they could only attack 5 creepies. Seems that sugar sends our white blood cells on a coffee break. Good luck battling your next cold with plenty of sleep and water...and leave the M&Ms alone until healthy.

The Washington Association of Student Councils (WASC) is seeking a high school sophomore from Eastern Washington to serve a two-year term as a representative to the State Board of Education. The student would also serve on the executive board of WASC.  This position requires an articulate student who is able to listen, observe and provide input on issues regarding educational policy in Washington State. Resident Counselors (RCs) for Middle Level Leadership Camps
Open to High School Juniors and Seniors
The Resident Counselor (RC) program is an excellent opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to enhance their leadership skills.  Each of the four middle level summer leadership camps builds a staff of RCs composed of high school and college-age students.  The camps count on having RCs to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere in the dorms.  The RCs also serve as role models, teaching assistants, and promoters of camp spirit.  A high school student that has attended a high school summer leadership camp makes an excellent RC, as do quality students interested in working with middle level students.
RC Application.

ACTIVITIES AND TIMELY TIPS

Solve It! An Activity from Middle Level Regionals 2008

Thanks to Olympic Educational Service District Information Technology Coordinator Jeff Allen, over 1,800 students were able to participate in a record-breaking 1-3-6ing session. Delegates at the annual Middle Level Regionals (MLRs) Leadership Conference on February 5-7, through an internet program called a Moodle, agreed upon common concerns then collectively generated solutions for them. The five common concerns of middle level student leaders ranked in order of most mentioned are:
1. Bullying
2. Respect
3. Student Involvement
4. Gang Related Issues
5. Fundraising
Review the solutions to these concerns.
