Can You See Yourself as Wildly Prosperous

Dear

For the last twelve years, the tag line of my companies has been Cultivating Prosperity.  These two words were chosen after lengthy deliberation.

We picked the word cultivating rather than creating because we felt that was the best descriptor of our role.  We lay the foundation and clear the path by preparing a space for you.  Then, alongside you, we plant the seeds and nurture what comes forth.  We realize we can't create prosperity for you or anyone else, as many of the choices on your path to prosperity are yours and yours alone.

In all these years, I have never actually formalized my personal definition of prosperity.  I have read the definitions of many others.  Some were a fit for me and others were not.  My personal belief is that wealth is not prosperity, but simply a facet of it.  While it is very difficult to get along in our culture without it, money alone does not lead to a prosperous life.

In preparation for a speech in Tulsa next month, I decided it was time for me to write down my own personal definition of prosperity.

What I came up with is this:

Prosperity is having one's personal dreams manifest with grace and ease.

Dreams in all areas of our life -

  • financial
  • health
  • relationships
  • work
  • spiritual

This month's article is entitled Can you see yourself as wildly prosperous?

Kim began working with Mackey about ten or so years ago.  Over the years, she said that she has come to some of her own truths about money.

"Money isn't everything, and it doesn't make you who you are," Kim said.  "It's a tool, and you can use it to thrive or to simply survive."

Kim also volunteered that while working with Mackey, she has learned about the facet of money with which many people struggle, namely, the emotional side of money.  We all have beliefs about money, most of which we learned early in life.  And whether there is abundance or scarcity, it can trigger feelings of anger, sadness, joy, fear, and shame.  "For peace of mind, it's important to have it managed well," Kim said.

Having a good manager is equal to having peace of mind.  "Today, I don't worry about money like I used to.  I trust Mackey to help me make the right decisions about money, and she has never steered me wrong."

Reading Mackey's book The Intersection of Joy and Money changed Kim's perspective about money as well.  "After reading it and doing the exercises, I was able to let go of my insecurity around money."

So without those insecurities hanging around, I asked her what wisdom she would share with the rest of us.  "To me, what's important comes down to what I refer to as the ‘Three Fs' - faith, family, and friends.  My relationships in those areas are more important than anything else."  And she was quick to add two more bits of wisdom:  "Don't be afraid to take a risk.  And share your wealth."  A wise woman indeed.

In closing, I asked Kim if there was anything she wanted to tell others about working with Mackey.  "Mackey is very informed, educated, and well-read - and she cares.  She looks to make a connection with a client.  I have recommended her many times."

Can you see yourself as wildly prosperous?

My personal definition of prosperity is having one's personal dreams manifest with grace and ease.  Dreams in all areas of our life -

  • financial
  • health
  • relationships
  • work
  • spirituality

We're talking about your personal dreams here - not the American dream, your mother's dream, your boss's dream, your children's dream, or even your spouse's dream (though there may be other dreams or goals that you share with these people).

What is it that keeps us from being wildly prosperous every day?  What keeps you from all the money you want or need, abundant health, loving relationships, rewarding work, and a rich and rewarding spiritual life?

  • Is it because your degree is in music, English, art, or a similar field, and professions in those areas don't pay well?  Or that you don't have a degree at all?
  • Is it because your family of origin didn't teach you about money matters?
  • Is it because eat a healthy diet means eating food that doesn't taste good, costs too much, takes too long to prepare, or isn't available at a drive-thru window?
  • Is it because your boss doesn't recognize your talents or has it in for you?
  • Is it because there just is no time for you to pray or meditate?
  • Is it because you keep playing those same country songs over and over in your head:  "If Money Talks, We're Not on Speaking Terms", "If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?" and "I Went Back to My Fourth Wife for the Third Time and Gave Her a Second Chance to Make a First Class Fool Out of Me"?

This list could go on and on.  And I believe that none of the things on this list are true boundaries.

If you want to find your personal prosperity boundaries, look to where you focus your mind.  How prosperous are your thoughts?  Your thoughts are the seeds of your tomorrows.  They become your beliefs... and your beliefs create your behavior...and your behavior creates your outcomes.  To get new results, we must start at the beginning...with our thoughts.

Norman Vincent Peale said "Whenever a negative thought concerning your personal power comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out."  Napoleon Hill said it this way: "If you don't control what you think, you can't control what you do.  Think and grow rich."

If you want to have prosperity - having your personal dreams manifest with grace and ease - you must control your thinking by consciously choosing your thoughts, so that the beliefs that create your outcomes serve you well.  Here are some examples of beliefs that will change when your thoughts change:

A woman's place is in the home needs to be transformed into a woman's place is where she chooses.

Time is money.  Now there's a thought certain to restrict your prosperity! If time is money and time is finite, then I can only have as much money as I have time.  Can you turn that into time is time and money is abundant?

Wealthy people are greedy and only care about themselves.  My father, bless his heart, believed this one big time.  He had an intense fear of wealthy people  and disliked them to boot.  What about transforming this belief into wealthy people are just like everyone who isn't wealthy, except that they have money...some are nice and some are not.  I can be wealthy and nice if I choose to be.

You have to work hard to get ahead, nose to the grindstone.  Now there's a recipe for a hard life!  Can you turn that into I do what I love and the money follows!

You can have your dreams manifest with grace and ease.  Why not start today?  Discard those limiting thoughts and the beliefs that ride along with them.  Replace them with new, self-chosen, positive, and life-affirming thoughts.

Why not start by affirming...I am wildly prosperous!
