I WANT YOU TO GET INVOLVED IN OUR HOME RUN DERBIES

The PBCC and the PA Association of Community Bankers have joined together to bring a Home Run Derby event to all minor league baseball stadiums across PA during the month of July 2008.  These derbies will not only raise funds for the PBCC but will increase awareness in communities throughout the state.

I want to ask PBCC board members, county captains, and breast cancer advocates to support this fun-filled and innovative fundraising effort with corporate sponsorship by forming a team of 4 to take a swing and try to hit one out of the park or by volunteering to work at the event in your area.  This is your chance to take the field in a minor league stadium, enjoy a day away from work, and have some family-friendly fun!  It'll be a day to remember.

Join with the 50+ teams already signed on, along with the Local and State All-Star Sponsors, and play your part to make our Home Run Derbies a success!  Click to see how to sponsor, create a team, volunteer and other details.

Cancer Recovery Foundation of America
Pink Beanie Bear Donation

We recently received an email from the Cancer Recovery Foundation of America, a national cancer organization whose headquarters are located in Harrisburg, asking if we would like a donation of pink Beanie Baby bears for our Friends Like Me™ care packages.  They had received a large donation from Ty, the company that makes Beanie Babies, and couldn't use them all so they thought of the PBCC!  Of course, we said YES!  So we headed to Harrisburg and loaded up the van with lots and lots of bears - almost 2300 to be exact!  We'll be putting these bears into our care packages and also giving them out to children at upcoming events.

Thank you to the Cancer Recovery Foundation of America for thinking of us!  Check out their website for more information on the CRFA.

FUNDRAISER OF THE MONTH
Reading Express Indoor Football Breast Cancer Awareness Night

3900 fans attended the Reading Express Indoor Football team's Breast Cancer Awareness night on May 17, 2008.   The players wore special jerseys with pink numbers to warm up, which were then autographed and auctioned off to benefit the PBCC.  $2075 was raised!  Thanks so much to the Reading Express and all the fans!

Visit our Grassroots Partners webpage for more photos of this event and other recent events.

Dear ,

FREE TREATMENT FOR BREAST CANCER
JUST BECAME EASIER WITH DIRECT ACCESS

Getting free treatment for breast cancer will be easier starting July 1, 2008, thanks to the simplification of the enrollment process for the Free Treatment for Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCPT).

The PBCC held a press conference on June 11 with Secretary of the PA Department of Public Welfare Estelle Richman (above left), PBCC President Pat Halpin-Murphy and Acting Deputy Secretary of the PA Department of Health Janice P. Kopelman (above right) to announce plans to provide for direct access to the Free Treatment program, making it easier for women who are uninsured and underinsured throughout the state to get the treatment they need.  The Department of Health and the Department of Public Welfare worked together to simplify the process and allow for the paperwork to make the trip through the bureaucracy instead of the patient.  This effort will allow many women to begin treatment more quickly.  Does your hospital offer the Free Treatment Program?

Click for more information on the Free Treatment program.

PBCC BOARD MEMBER RECEIVES AWARD

Governor Edward G. Rendell has named Bonnie Squires, PBCC Vice President for Development and President of Squires Consulting, as one of the Best 50 Women in Business in Pennsylvania.  The 50 Women in Business award program is conducted in cooperation with five Pennsylvania business journals, including the Central Penn Business Journal.

An independent panel of judges selected the top 50 candidates based on their dedication to business growth, professional and personal accomplishments, community involvement, and advocacy for women in business.

Bonnie was nominated for this prestigious award by Representative James R. Roebuck, chairman of the House Education Committee.

Congratulations, Bonnie!  The PBCC is proud of you, and delighted that you have been recognized in this way.

KUDOS AND THANKS
The Reading Hospital Regional Cancer Center

Special thanks to The Reading Hospital Regional Cancer Center for sponsoring two PBCC grassroots partners events in May.  They sponsored jerseys for the Reading Phillies Mother's Day game and also the Reading Express Touchdown for a Cure event, for which they recommended the PBCC as a recipient of the proceeds.  Thanks so much for your generosity!

WE NEED YOUR HELP AT OUR HOME RUN DERBIES
Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer

The PBCC is working with the PA Association of Community Bankers to hold home run derbies throughout July at 11 of the state's minor league baseball stadiums.  All proceeds benefit the PBCC.

We need volunteers to help in Altoona, Erie, Lancaster, Reading, State College, Washington, Williamsport and York.  Volunteers will shag balls in the outfield, assist with the derby lineups, check people in at registration, and provide general assistance where needed.  Click here for details and to fill out the volunteer application form.

Each volunteer will receive a free home run derby tee shirt and 2 tickets to the game following the derby, plus the satisfaction of helping a good cause.   Don't miss out on the fun.  Sign up to volunteer today!
