Largest
Student Aid Increase Since World War
II
Earlier this month,
the Democratic-led House of Representatives passed the largest expansion of
college aid since World War II. The legislation will boost student financial aid
by $18 billion over the next five years and pay for itself by reducing excessive
government subsidies to college loan corporations. As a special favor to those
same big loan corporations, Congressman Rehberg said 'No way'.
Rehberg
gave the back of the hand to Montana kids from middle-class families
who need help to afford skyrocketing college tuition. He and his
Republican pals in Congress sided as usual with Wall Street corporate
interests that fund their campaigns. This legislation will bring $48
million in student aid to Montana and will help over 20,000 Montana
kids from working families afford college.
If we didn't know it
by now, Rehberg has shown again that he doesn't care about Montana's working
families who want their kids to get a shot at the American Dream. By voting
against the largest student aid increase in sixty years, Rehberg has made clear
that he's not for us, in fact he's not even one of us. As the 22nd
wealthiest member of Congress, being able to afford the cost of college tuition
just isn't a problem, or his concern in any way.
