Eat at the Pea Today

Visit the Black-eyed Pea TODAY (Tuesday, May 15th) and COMPASS will receive 15-20% of the sales from your meal. This is such a great, easy way for you to support COMPASS today! All you have to do is enjoy a GREAT meal for lunch or dinner and print off the COMPASS flier to give to your server. Click here to download a flier. There are 6 fliers to a page. So you can print off 1 page, keep a flier for yourself, and give 5 to friends, family, clients, or employees. We could really use your support with this event. Eat at the Black-eyed Pea and raise money for COMPASS so we can continue to find ways to make our Sumner County Schools even better! Hope to see you there!

Does Your Civic Club Need a Speaker?

Are you involved in a club or organization that has featured speakers at their meetings? COMPASS Director Kara Arnold has made presentations to civic clubs all over Sumner County. Just last week Kara spoke to the Hendersonville Optimist Club and the Portland Lions Club is on the agenda for next week. COMPASS Board Members are also equipped to share with your group. We are still pretty new to Sumner County, just finishing up our 3rd year working with Sumner County public schools, and it's important for us to continuously spread our message. Making presentations to groups of all sizes is the best way to do this. If you are interested in letting us share our mission with you, send an email to Kara Arnold.

Partner Pages

We'd like to welcome the following new COMPASS Partners: The childrens' clothing boutique in Hendersonville Bullfrogs and Butterflies is partnering with Benny Bills Elementary; CPA firm Jennings & Clouse will be working with Westmoreland High; and the Indian Lake Blvd. branch of GreenBank just had their partnership ceremony with Nannie Berry Elementary

Hughes Edwards Homes is a Gold Partner with Lakeside Park Elementary. Hughes employee Heather Tripp has been teaching 2 second grade classes about what it means to live and work in a community. Heather uses curriculum from Nashville's Junior Achievement. In this picture to the right Heather is teaching the students about unit production and assembly line production.

Rogers Group Mid Central Division donated the materials for a new track for Millersville Elementary. They teamed up with Pavecoat, who donated the equipment and labor, to complete the job. The school also needed sand for their long-jump pit. Rogers Group didn't have the sand on hand so they contacted colleagues at Garrott Brothers, and they were happy to make the donation.

First State

These COMPASS Partners aren't stopping at just one school! They've been spreading goodwill to schools that may not be their "official" COMPASS Partner:

First State Bank is partnered with Madison Creek Elementary, but with branches all over Sumner County, they're making an impact at several schools. Most recently they sponsored a Teacher Appreciation luncheon at Whitten Elementary. Pictured to the left are First State's Glenbrook Branch Manager Paul Billingham, Whitten Guidance Counselor Janet Watkins, First State's Community Bank President Dan Hawkins, Kathy White from their main office in Goodlettsville, and Main Street Branch Manager Bruce Carter.

Chick-fil-a in Glenbrook is an official COMPASS Partner with Whitten Elementary, but they've also reached out to H.B. Williams Elementary by donating free meal coupons that the school has been giving to their Honor Roll students and to students receiving the Hustle Award.

Volunteer State Community College is offering summer camp classes to middle school students. Click here for more details on classes offered. Also offered this summer at VSCC is a special workshop at the NewSkills center for middle and high school students. Reading, writing, and math skills can be addressed. Click here for details.

GreenBank

May's Partnership Spotlight is on

GreenBank

GreenBank's Hendersonville branch located on Indian Lake Blvd. near the Main St. intersection may be new to the COMPASS program but they are not new to helping out Nannie Berry Elementary. Branch Manager Lisa Bain is full of great idea on how a small business can make a big impact. Lisa led the "Thinking Outside The Box" campaign for the school where she would visit area businesses--usually within a couple blocks of the school--and ask them if they could donate a box of copy paper. This was an easy donation for almost all those asked, and the paper collected kept Nannie Berry from dipping into school funds to cover this expense. Lisa also collects Campbell's soup labels for the school and her tellers cut and organize the labels when they are having down time. GreenBank, Hendersonville Branch #112 is a shining example of what it really takes to make a difference--a couple innovative ideas and a passion for impacting our public schools.
