Service with a Smile at "It's My Park! Day"
On May 17, nearly one hundred BwB NYC students partnered with two local environmental groups for "It's My Park! Day" 2008. Clean up and restoration
work included landscaping, painting, shoveling compost, and planting trees. BwB members also ran activities for neighborhood children, including
creating an "Environmental Superhero" that would help protect the earth. Click here to read more.

Youth Advisory Council Enjoys "Alternative" Spring
Break
For more than 100 New York City teenagers, spring break meant fun in the sun at a community service project. Coordinated by BwB NY's Youth Advisory
Council (YAC), the first ever Alternative Spring Break brought together dozens of BwB members each day to help revive Bissel Gardens, a five-block
community garden in the Bronx. During the week, a total of 116 BwB student volunteers contributed more than 580 hours of service during the week! Read more...

Trek Team: From Nicaragua to the Bronx
On April 26, students on the NY/CT Winter Trek for Knowledge to
Nicaragua
completed
their final commitment by participating in their last Post-Trek Workshop. This workshop coincided with the construction of the school they
helped
build in Los Encuentros, Nicaragua, which was completed on
April 21. The day in the Bronx entailed a service project and a celebration of the achievements of the Trek Team and of the finished

Spotlight: BwB Members Celebrate National Poetry Month
In April, two BwB NY programs celebrated National Poetry Month with unique and engaging activities. At the Bronx Expeditionary Learning High School
(BELHS), BwB's First Annual "Rhyme Cafe" let students perform original works and classic poems. At Validus Preparatory Academy, BwB members passed
out
poems to students on "Poem in Your Pocket" Day. Read
