The recent dump of snow in the Spokane area has required us to postpone the Centennial Middle School Middle Level Regionals (MLR) Leadership Conference that was to be held on February 7. We have rescheduled the Centennial Middle School MLR for Wednesday, February 13.

Washington Student Leadership and the Sonics have rescheduled the Sonic Leadership Day Leadership and Your Future for Feb. 29, 2008. Last year 356 students from around the state participated in this engaging workshop. Sam Presti, general manager of the Sonics, is the featured keynote speaker.

NASC Trip to Fort Worth, Texas "Hats Off to Leadership"
June 22-29, 2008
Each year Washington State sends a delegation of 46 students to the National Association of Student Councils Conference. The 2008 conference will be held in Fort Worth, Texas with the pre-trip taking place in the heart of Texas. Cost of the trip is $1400 with a registration deadline of Feb. 22.

CALL FOR ENTRIES:
Bezos Scholars Program at The Aspen Institute

Public High School Juniors are invited to apply to the distinguished 2008 Bezos Scholars Program at the Aspen Institute (BSP).
BSP is searching for top public high school juniors who are independent thinkers, demonstrated leaders and engaged community members. Twelve student scholars will receive a six-day all-expense-paid scholarship to the Aspen Ideas Festival, hosted by the Aspen Institute (June 29 - July 4). Upon selection of student scholars, chosen through a competitive application process, an educator from each school will also be awarded a full scholarship.

Application deadline: March 14, 2008.

The Sallie Mae Fund announced that its scholarship application season is now open and invites students attending college in the fall to apply for more than $2 million in
scholarships it will award for the 2008-2009 school year. Applications, eligibility and deadline information are now available at www.salliemaefund.org.
Scholarships are awarded based on a number of factors - from your career goals to where your parents work to exceptional writing skills displayed in an essay contest. Apply for as many awards as you qualify for.

American Dream Scholarship Program: Deadline April 15
The American Dream program was developed in partnership with the United Negro College Fund and offers scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 to African-American students with demonstrated financial need.

First in My Family Scholarship Program: Deadline April 15
This program, developed in partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, offers scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college and have financial
need.
