In May, our Board President, Sharon Emerson, finished another full marathon, The Music City Marathon in Nashville.  While she said she would never run another marathon, more particularly the Nashville Marathon again, she did it to help raise money for Seven Blessings.

And that she did, she raised over $6,000.  Which met and exceeded her goal of $5,000.  Her inspiration was all of the animals here at Seven Blessings, but three in particular she had put on a t-shirt and wore on her run:  Athena a 118#, 8 year old mastiff; Baby Girl, an 11 year old cocker; and Skippy, our three-legged joy!

She and Seven Blessings are grateful to everyone who got out their checkbooks and wrote checks or donated on-line to help.  Because of your big hearts, Seven Blessings will be able to continue our mission to ensure that all animals that come to Seven Blessings will never be alone, hungry, sick, afraid or in pain again.

Oh, and if you are a runner and would like to help next year; Sharon will be putting together “Team Seven Blessings.”   You too can have the incredible feeling of accomplishment of completing a whole or half marathon all while raising money for our four legged-friends.

Stay tuned!  More to follow!

I wanted to also let everyone know that our Athena has gone to Rainbow Bridge; she passed away on the evening of July 1st, losing her battle to cancer.  And she was also being treating for an extended ACL in her left knee.  She had a good life with her previous owner who passed away.  But unfortunately her owner’s relatives did not want to take on the responsibility of attending to a very large, old, and ill pet and she was taken to the shelter in hopes of adoption.  Fortunately, someone knew about us and we were asked to take her.  Allen and Holly gave her the best of love, care, and comfort.

She was the queen of the Seven Blessings domain; she was a mentor to most and loved by ALL at the sanctuary.  The last few days have been quite around the farm; I know that the other residents don’t comprehend the why; but I believe they know that she is gone and feel comforted by Allen and Holly.  And that is what we do; we comfort when there is confusion.  I think it would have been a very big comfort to Athena’s former owner to have known that Athena came to us and lived out her days with love.

Have you thought about your pet’s life if something unexpected happen to you?  Make sure you have a loving place for them to go in the worst time of their life; a time without you.  Athena is now re-united with her owner in heaven, I believe both are looking down and saying, “thank you Seven Blessings!”
