Super Moms at Travis High School

GENaustin is providing a program called "Super Moms" at Travis High School this semester in collaboration with Communities in Schools and the Pregnancy, Education, and Parenting Program (PEP).  This unique program serves pregnant and parenting students with the objective of improving critical thinking skills, increasing self-efficacy and enhancing awareness of relationships with themselves and others.

Themes include "Expressing Myself", "Accepting Different Parts of Myself", "Giving Voice to Feelings", and "Girlfights or Girlfriends," and are complimented by activities such as journalling, roleplaying, sculpting, and more.

clubGEN End of Year Party

On April 22nd, the clubGEN High School Facilitators celebrated their year of hard work at the South Austin Rock Gym.  All but one girl were novices to rock climbing, yet every girl took on the challenge with the confidence and esteem in true clubGEN fashion.

This event offered a chance for the facilitators from different clubGENs to come together and appreciate their efforts in creating clubs that were fun, exciting and very impactful for themselves and the middle school girls.  Throughout the year the facilitators have been good listeners and good role models, providing middle schools girls with the education, encouragement, support and inspiration to help them grow into strong and healthy women.  In the words of one of the attendees, "What I love about clubGEN is laughing and crying with all of my [middle school] girls, knowing I'm empowering them every step of the way!"

GENaustin would like to thank all of its wonderful volunteers from the YWA (Young Women's Alliance) and the YWA Foundation for all of their support in making this event possible.  Another special thanks to Southside Flying Pizza and Sweet Leaf Tea for donating their mouth-watering pizzas and delicious tea for the climbers.  Additionally, each girl was given a goodie bag courtesy of Austin Natural Soap and Claire's Boutique, and a few very lucky girls received door prizes from Dart Bowl Bowling Ally, Cinemark Barton Creek and Pei-San Jewelry.  Finally, thank you to the Austin Rock Gym for being such gracious hosts!

Dear GENaustin Supporter,

As you may know, GENaustin is the supported charity for the Remarkable Women's Conference.  We have arranged for a special discount for GENaustin supporters of $20.00 off the price of registration.  You can take a look at the website at www.RemarkableConferences.com and if you decide to register, you can enter code GEN to receive your $20.00 discount.

The Remarkable Women's Conference connects local women from all cross-sections of the community.  Attend this very reasonably priced 2-day conference on May 11-12 and choose from 20 workshops within four different focus areas (including entrepreneur, corporate, health and wellness, and personal development).  You might also want to consider taking advantage of the many available advertising and sponsorship opportunities and plan to participate in their fabulous tradeshow.

More than just a 2-day conference, the Remarkable Women's Conference is a community with pre and post conference events available to keep the networking going.  And keep in mind that a portion of every dollar supports GENaustin (www.genaustin.org).

Thanks!
