Hunting for those Sorority Eggs

Whitney Carr

The sororities of MTSU will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt Sunday, March 25th at 1pm. The event is held at the home of MTSU President Dr. Sidney McPhee, with the hunt providing games and goodies for children of all ages. Each sorority is represented by a few ladies that help the event run smoothly with activities such as the ring toss, cake walk, and face painting. The big finale is, of course, the egg hunt. Last year’s event even witnessed the presence of the Easter Bunny; a repeat is possible for this year’s hunt. The 2007 Easter Egg Hunt should see even more families and festivities than ever, with the event being free and open to the public. If you are interested in being apart of this event, or bringing kids, you can contact Whitney Haldeman or Whitney Carr.

Pike’s Peak 2007

John Carter

The gentlemen of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity have scheduled their annual Pike’s Peak week March 19-24. The festivities scheduled are sure to provide an enjoyable experience for not only members, but also parents, faculty, and other members of the Greek community.

“We have put a lot of time and effort into planning Pike’s Peak, and if all goes as planned, it should be the best week since any of our active brothers have been on campus,” says brother and IFC President Brandon Butler.

The tentative plans for the week are:

Monday- Parents Dinner

Tuesday- Faculty Appreciation

Wednesday- Date Party

Thursday- Sorority Appreciation Carwash

Friday- Community Service, Make a Wish Foundation, Beach Bum Party

Saturday- Alumni Golf Tournament, Founders Day Banquet

Greek of the Week:

Jose Becton

Josh McKenzie

Charismatic, Energetic, Outgoing, Personable, Comical, Involved, and Respected. These are simply a few words that are used to describe this week’s Greek of the Week, Jose Becton. Jose is a senior, earning a degree in Organizational Communication. As a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc, he began making his mark, not only in the Greek community, but on the MTSU campus as a man of honor and dignity.

Jose is an involved student leader on campus, serving as the Vice President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a member of Phi Eta Honors Society, a Mentor for Student Support Services, and an MPAC Choreographer. He also partakes in off campus activities, such as acting as a Producer and Band manager, as well as an all-around Entertainer. If you have been to any Greek event over the past few years, such as the 2005 Fight Song Competition and this year’s Up ‘Til Dawn finale event, you most likely witnessed the MC stylings of Mr. Becton.

“Greek Life has benefitted me by helping me reach a greater population and giving me a platform to share the beauties of being positive and productive,” says Becton, displaying his usual dose of cheer and his great attitude.

When asked his favorite Greek Life memory, he believes his Line Brothers, his Probate Show, and Spring 2006 rise above his vast selection of memorable MTSU moments, showing his dedication to the Greek community. Jose will be graduating this May, leaving behind numerous experiences and memories, and MTSU without its most popular enthusiastically positive Greek.

Alpha Chi Omega "Jams" to Raise Money

Kaila Packett

Get ready to rock out at Bluesboro, 7:30pm on March 27 at Alpha Chi Omega's 3rd annual fundraising event to help support victims of Domestic Violence, Raiderstock. Cover is $6 at the door and all proceeds will go to the Domestic Violence program. Raiderstock is a spin off of Woodstock where Alpha Chi has bands come and play in order to raise money for Domestic Violence. Last year we raised over $1500 dollars for Domestic Violence. Raising money for Domestic Violence has helped women all over. The Domestic Violence program, with our contributions, has enabled them to build new shelters for victims of Domestic Violence and has furthered their program by leaps and bounds. So come out and support this worthy cause and hear amazing performances by four rockin' bands!

Lambda Theta Alpha’s Miss Universal Pageant

Whitney Carr

Much to the chagrin of skeptics, all pageants are not created equal. Point in case, Lambda Theta Alpha’s first ever Miss Universal pageant. The event was held last Wednesday, March 14th, with the purpose of honoring diverse cultures. Campus women represented Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Haiti, Nicaragua, South Africa and the United States. Contestants began with a business segment where they spoke about their career goals. The cultural costume and talent portion was a chance for the ladies to honor their heritage. Lastly, the contestants graced the stage in formal gowns while judges listened to their personal definition of what truly is a universal woman. The title of Miss Universal went to Moni Denny who represented the Apache culture. All proceeds went to the Miss Universal scholarship fund that Lambda Theta Alpha is starting. President Luis Padro said there was a good turn out and hopes to make this an annual event with the mindset that it is “different from an everyday pageant.” Congratulations to Moni Denny and Lambda Theta Alpha for their success.
