What's New at Car Talk Plaza?

"Click and Clack's As the Wrench Turns," that's what!

That's right, after more than 6,000 suggestions from you, our long-suffering listeners, we finally have a name for our new animated TV series with PBS!

Congratulations go to Geoff Groff of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for the suggestion. For being selected, Geoff gets our eternal thanks, along with (get this!) a cameo in the series -- and a dubious thank you from Car Talk and PBS that should more than offset any feelings of euphoria he might be experiencing at this very moment.

Come hear about Geoff's "Eureka!" moment, join us for a chat with Geoff, check out the cast of characters in the new series, and join the continuing discussion on our web site right here.

Geoff, you have our sincere condolences. No doubt, the life-long infamy will have you dope-slapping yourself silly, wishing you'd spent all those hours on Saturday morning listening to one of the good NPR shows, instead.

To be perfectly frank, we had hoped for another name. Like, say, "Ken Burns Presents Car Talk." (Figuring that would get people to watch.) Or, "20 Minutes and Still Not Canceled." (Figuring we'd make it at least that long... but PBS wasn't so sure.)

Seen our newly redesigned web site, yet? After far-too-many years, and a web site that was designed with a Commodore 64 and a 300-baud modem, we decided it was time for a new look. We hope you like it! Let us know what you think, won't you?

Got to go. Geoff's lawyer is on the phone. Something about personal injury, defamation of character, and public humiliation.

Lame Joke
P.S. Here's this week's Lame Joke of the Week courtesy of Mary Anne Adams:

The local Mafia boss hired a deaf accountant, thinking the accountant wouldn't be able to overhear their more "delicate" discussions.  One day, the boss realized that a sum of $10 million was missing and went to confront the accountant.  Since the boss didn't know sign language, he took his attorney with him who did know sign language.  The boss told the attorney to ask the accountant where he put the $10 million.

The attorney and accountant conversed in sign language and the attorney translated for the boss, telling him that the accountant didn't know what the boss was talking about.  The boss took out a gun and aimed it at the accountant.  He instructed the attorney to ask the accountant again.  The conversation occurred in sign language between the attorney and the accountant.  This time the accountant told the attorney that the money was under his cousin Lorenzo's patio.  The boss asked the attorney what the accountant had said and the attorney reported, "He said you don't have the guts to pull that trigger."

Been meaning to write us a witty, brilliant, evocative, insightful letter? Excellent! We're not getting any of those things from the chumps hanging around Car Talk Plaza. For that matter, we'd settle for anything better than the usual schlock Tommy reads on the air.
