Dear ,

The Making of Custom Watches

Only a select group of companies today will produce one-of-a-kind fine watches upon request. At RGM it is a source of pride that the company is small enough to offer such exclusivity yet experienced and knowledgeable enough to offer a wide array of options to the discerning buyer.

Customizations can range from the simple to the sublime. A “production model” RGM watch – the Ref. 151, for example – could be customized with a unique dial or a personalized engraved rotor. Such modifications represent the more cost-effective ways for an enthusiast to obtain a unique example of an already limited-production watch. However, for the wristwatch connoisseur who desires a truly unique piece, RGM can accommodate by creating a timepiece designed to your specifications.

Don't let this up-to-date approach fool you, however. RGM's custom-built watches are still assembled by hand and can feature decorative elements that recall the old masters of the dying arts. Movement parts, such as rotors and bridges, can be hand-engraved or skeletonized to your wishes.

Dials, plates, wheels and case parts can be hand engraved or engine-turned using antique rose engines such as were used to create the classic guilloché dials of A.-L. Breguet nearly 200 years ago.

Watch case materials range from steel to platinum, in all shapes. You may choose an existing RGM style or have a completely new design created for your watch. RGM can help you refine your request. Movement options are just as varied.

Any number of modern Swiss movements can be chosen for your watch, even including ultra-complications such as minute-repeating tourbillons and perpetual calendars with chronograph. Or you may choose to work with us to select a noteworthy vintage movement. There is even the possibility of creating a movement from scratch if the customer is so ambitious. The options are nearly endless.

Whether you choose from one of RGM's already exclusive lines or decide to explore your options for a custom-built watch, the RGM team is at your disposal to help you acquire or create the watch of your dreams.

In addition to creating fine watches, RGM also repairs and restores some of the finest timepieces from the most famous houses worldwide.  We'd be happy to examine your timepiece and provide you with an estimate for repair or restoration.

Our next newsletter will feature our newest design, the American Caliber 801.

Caliber 801 is the first high grade mechanical movement series made in America in almost forty years. This is a very significant moment in the history of RGM and in American Watchmaking.  We look forward to sharing it with you.
